Buffalo Squadron #1, CAP of Buffalo, NY

Buffalo Squadron #1, Civil Air Patrol

Meetings are held every Wednesday night from 7 PM to 9:30 PM at the First Preysbeterian Church at 875 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14222. For more information send email to: CAP31022@aol.com.

CAP was organized in December 1941. It fulfilled many non-combatant roles for the US Army Air Corps in the US including border surveillance, target-towing, courier duties, and pre-flight training. Today CAP is chartered by Congress as the official civilian auxiliary of the US Air Force. We have 53,000 civilian volunteers who share an interest in aviation and community services. Our mission is aerospace education, emergency services, and an exciting cadet program.

Emergency Services

Emergency Services is our biggest function. It includes air/ground search and rescue, disaster relief, and civil defense. CAP flys 80% of the search hours for search & rescue for the US Air Force. We also survey damaged areas, transport human organs for transplant, and provide communications during disasters. We often work with the Federal Emergency Managment Agency, the American Red Cross, and other emergency services organizations.

Aerospace Education/Cadet Program

The CAP Cadet Program is open to girls and boys
12-18 years old interested in aviation and emergency services. Program activites include aerospace education, camping, search & rescue training, and flying. Cadets may also participate in an International Air Cadet Exchange Program and compete for scholarships.
The Senior Program is open to men and women who share an interest in aviation and emergency services.
