"Let the People Decide"
Superior, WI - US Senate Candidate Bill Lorge is making due on his promise to visit all
72 Counties, all Major Towns, Cities and Villages during his Campaign for the US Senate, when
he made a number of popular stops in the Northern most parts of Wisconsin last week. Lorge
spent a few days in Wisconsin's northern most major City of Superior. Friday night, when Lorge and
his family returned to their Superior Hotel, "The Prime Rate Inn", they were pleased to learn it
was Karaoke Night, and yes, Lorge did please the crowd and sang a few Elvis songs, and between
songs also asked for votes!* "Daddy is the best," said his 3 year old daughter Elizabeth who
walked up to her Daddy while Lorge sang "American Trilogy" like the King. On Saturday, Lorge
and his family hiked to Wisconsin's largest waterfall, Big Manitou Falls in Pattison State Park
South of Superior. Lorge was in Superior this week gaining overwhelming support for his, "Let
the People Decide" Campaign where Lorge is telling it like it is and the voters like his honesty
and his record.
Lorge said he becomes "more and more inspired to campaign harder everyday to win.
My Record in the State Legislature is a big plus when I am out there talking to the tens of
thousands of voters I have already met in the last 8 weeks. This is great. I love it. I want it to
continue forever, I hope the campaign never ends. I wish I could meet every person in
Wisconsin. I'm sure gonna try," said Lorge. Lorge is referring to the historic "Let the People
Decide" campaign in 1978 when the last GOP convention endorsed Candidate went down in
flames at the ballot box because the People in Wisconsin take great pride in Clean Government.
This year, for the first time since 1978, those in the state GOP who don't like Lorge broke rules,
changed rules and bent rules to make sure that Lorge has a tough time defeating incumbent
Democrat Senator Herb Kohl. GOP insiders including Governor Tommy Thompson made sure at the State
Convention that Lorge would not only be denied his GOP delegate status for the first time in his life, but the state
GOP also changed the rules to prevent Lorge's name from appearing on the Convention's US Senate ballot they
used to endorse Lorge's hand picked GOP opponent John Gillespie. "The way they cling to any power
they have in this State is not only childish and silly in a way, but it is actually appalling, because this is
how the GOP endorsers want to practice democracy, to exclude the average voter. It is really
sad. But cheer up, Lorge can win," said John Moder, Chair of Lorge's US Senate Campaign. Lorge and Gillespie
are friends, but not those who are behind Gillespie. They picked someone who was a friend of Lorge's from his own
Assembly District to run for very strategic reasons. The one who talked Gillespie into running against
Lorge at the last minute in the GOP Primary was none other than the same person who always
recruits GOP opponents against Lorge - Someone who the Wisconsin Media knows, but who will remain nameless here.
This person has been continually running against Bill Lorge since Bill's very first campaign in 1984 which Lorge won, sort
of. It ended in a razor thin margin where Bill would have been the Youngest State Senator in Wisconsin History.
This competition in 1984 ended in a recount where Bill was not seated. He amazing vote getting capability won him the
GOP Nomination for State Treasurer two years later in 1986. Lorge's foes sadly make it some kind of hobby to run
candidates against the Lorge's, going as far back as 1980 when Pro-Choice Republicans targeted Bill's father in the State
Senate. The Senior Lorge won easily, but then in 1984 these foes started a very dirty campaign against Bill Lorge's father,
former State Senator Gerald Lorge, who was planning on retiring anyway in 1984, but had to do so unfortunately while
the unnecessary negative assaults from these foes continued early in 1984. These foes never missed running candidates
against any Lorge, never missed a race, not once was Lorge unopposed, they made sure of it, even running write-in
Candidates when they could not get someone on the ballot in time against Bill Lorge. They
tried to make sure that Bill Lorge's ten years in the State Assembly were as miserable as possible, as
Lorge was the only State Legislator ever to have well financed tough races launched against him
every election from within his own Party. Where did Lorge differ from his Party? Well in 1995 Lorge stopped GOP
Governor Thompson's 5 cent a gallon State Gas Tax increase. Lorge also personally killed several other new taxes that
the Governor created in State Budgets. Lorge also came very close to running against Thompson for Governor in 1998
in the GOP Primary. So as you can see, Lorge is not afraid to stand up and take on challenges that are almost impossible
to win, but sometimes he does just that, Lorge wins! As stated above, Lorge also was the only GOP to support the
needed Mining Moratorium bill, among other GOP battles. Most Legislators are unopposed at least half the time. So why
would Bill Lorge's 2000 US Senate race be any different? It wasn't. Lorge's frightened foes worked hard to find
someone to slow Lorge down with a GOP Primary opponent this year for US Senate, promising that person the GOP
endorsement and any other favors the overly Powerful Governor can provide. Lorge is relying on his people Power, the
same People Power that supported GOP Presidential Candidate US Senator John McCain this year. Lorge's foes also
use outdated yet still wealthy and unethical campaign slush funds to finance the campaigns of all the opponents they would
recruit to run against Bill Lorge, sending them the very Maximum donations allowed by Law in every race against Lorge.
What they have against Lorge originated from their fear that Bill Lorge might run against some of them back in the 1980's,
but it has now snowballed into more of an organized state-wide obsession they have for Lorge. Many Political insiders at
the State Capitol say that some of these higher level foes of Lorge could not stomach the idea of thier arch enemy, the
Younger Lorge, being the GOP Nominee for US Senator and possible going on to beat Herb Kohl and be thee top GOP
Office Holder in Wisconsin knocking Governor Tommy off his thrown. So they searched high and low until they found
someone who three months ago had no idea they would be running for the US Senate - John Gillespie, not even telling
Gillespie the truth that Lorge was already in the race, as Lorge and Gillespie are close personal friends.
Lorge is hoping the new Millennium year of 2000 will be one of Cleansing, and 2000 like
1978 will be known for, "Letting the People Decide". Lorge will put enough effort into events
this year that will show even more the need to: "Let the People Decide", by electing the
Candidate who wants the People to decide - Bill Lorge. Lorge is the People's Choice. Lorge has a solid record of
"People Power" in his ten year State Legislative career. Lorge is known as a Maverick for the People.

Lorge said that when the GOP topic is brought up with voters, "everyone says the state GOP and my GOP opponent
were wrong by staging that endorsement at the convention, and the way they broke rules all year long to keep me out,
even though I have been to more past State GOP State Conventions than they were ever at
(This would have been Lorge's 40th consecutive State convention had the Governor's
people not denied Lorge his legitimate credentials at the door), and the people out there are
definitely telling me that this endorsement scam alone is a big enough issue to vote for me on, like the 1978 "Let the People
Decide Campaign", but I always end up talking about other more important issues with everyone, and even when
we disagree, like the death penalty, they still say they will vote for me. I am honored. I am
really in my element. I am in the prime of my life. Never felt better, smarter, more energetic
and more improved. Like: BILL LORGE - THE NEWEST MOST IMPROVED
CANDIDATE. People look me in the eye and tell me they know I will do it, they trust me and
they want me to win. I have to win it for them. I am enjoying everyday of this campaign. I
can do this everyday until November 7th," said Lorge.
