Immediate Press Release: Week One Issue One Agriculture: Milk Pricing Lorge for US Senate Saturday, June 10, 2000 Bill Lorge goes after Farm Vote "Lorge vows to end Milk Pricing System, wins Milking contest" Dane County, WI - US Senate Candidate Bill Lorge started his electioneering on a Farm early Saturday Morning at Dane County's "Breakfast on the Farm" at Helt's Dairy Farm. Lorge, who had to win a cow milking contest to get the microphone, announced to the agricultural audience that, with his Farm and Government background, Lorge knows how to end the corrupt Federal Milk pricing system once and for all. Lorge is making it a major part of his campaign pledge to filibuster on the floor of the US Senate to end the federal milk pricing system that penalizes Wisconsin Dairy Farmers. "No one doubts that I will do it," said Lorge. "I know how to end this corrupt system that is robbing our dairy farmers and I'll need your help. If you elect me to the US Senate, I will make this my first and most important priority," said Lorge. Lorge explained that his threat to filibuster will be believed, because he is known for staging events like that, and "If the US Senate were to hear that Wisconsin elected Bill Lorge, they will either change the Milk Pricing system right then and there before I even get to the Capitol, or they will call my bluff and turn me into Mr. Smith goes to Washington, only this one will be for the Dairy Farmers, and what a noble cause to crusade for. I will also call on Wisconsin and Minnesota Dairy Farmers to dump milk, march on the Mall in Washington, DC with their tractors and many other ideas I have been getting from my Dairy Farm friends and supporters. I have been asking Dairy Farmers about my plans to see if they think it is too extreme or if they think I have the answer, and everyone so far is committed to fight with me to end this unfair milk pricing system once and for all. We are fighting for our children's future and for Wisconsin's Heritage. This is the worst time to be a Dairy Farmer in Wisconsin. The Politicians have failed us. We have the lowest milk prices in 25 years, we have the highest gas prices ever and the interest rates are going up and up. All these factors are killing our Dairy Farms, and they know they need a true fighter with a proven record like mine to lead them out of this misery. With my own blood relatives still surviving as Dairy Farmers, and with my reputation as a Maverick and a Fighter, there is no doubt that my threat to Filibuster will be taken seriously and it will produce the results we need. Most Farmers tell me, 'it's about time someone like you came along'," said Lorge. Lorge couldn't have asked for a better entrance into the US Senate race on his first official Day as a Candidate. It was almost as if it were scripted. US Senate Candidate Bill Lorge milking a cow by hand in the wee hours of the morning in a "Celebrity Milking Contest" on a huge picturesque Dairy Farm in the rolling hills of rural North West Dane County, and the sun was shining. "My grandparent's farm is a stones throw from here," Lorge reminded those gathered around the contest. "I was raised on Dane County Farms. Rose and Art Kalscheur in Mount Horeb, and Joe and Ruth Ziegler in Waunakee had great farms for me to work on when I was growing up. Even this Farm we are on here today, the Helt Farm - Well, Diane Helt's sister Carol is married to my first Cousin Don Statz, Jr., whose mother is my God Mother and favorite Aunt, and they are all here today. ... My Uncle Joe taught me how to hand milk a cow. It's like riding a bike. Once you learn it you never forget it. I haven't milked a cow by hand in over 20 years, but after a few squirts I was doing great and kept going until they said stop, and then I was out of breath," said Lorge. Lorge ended up with the most milk, bringing in a whooping one pound three ounces of milk in his milk pail in just 2 minutes. This was more than double the next highest competitor, but Lorge said it was all in fun. "I was even showing the others how to do it. We were all cheering for each one of us. I won a stuffed toy Cow that my three year old daughter Elizabeth has named, 'Wheezy'," said Lorge. Madison's WTDY Radio's Agricultural Reporter Pam Jahnke was the MC for the "Celebrity Milking Contest". Lorge said that Pam is loved by all the farmers and inspired him to come to the event and participate. "I owe it all to Pam, and my Grandma", Lorge concluded. # # # For a photo of Lorge milking the Cow, contact Lorge for Senate at: lorge2000@aol.com
