"Let the People Decide" - Letter to the Editor, Bill Lorge Wisconsin US Senate 2000

Letter to the Editor

"Let the People Decide"

July 2000

Dear Editor:

Please allow me to introduce myself to your readers.

Hello. I am Bill Lorge. I'm running for United States Senator and I'd very much

appreciate your vote on September 12th and November 7, 2000. For ten years, as a Wisconsin

State Legislator, I was known as "The People's Representative". Now, I hope to be "The

People's Senator". I am very proud of my record. I am making my stand on the issues the

number one priority of my US Senate campaign, along with my personal goal of meeting as many

people as I can right up until the polls close, including my plan to visit all 72 Wisconsin Counties

including your area soon. I also firmly pledge to run a positive and clean campaign.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I am 39 years old and a Licensed Real Estate Broker.

I am happily married to my hometown sweetheart Molly, we have a 3 year old daughter Elizabeth,

a 1 1/2 year old son John and a new baby due this Fall. I graduated Class President of St. Mary's

Grade School in Bear Creek. I was also elected Senior Class President of Clintonville High

School, and yes, I was President of my University of Wisconsin-Madison graduating Class. When

I delivered the UW Graduation Commencement address in 1983, the Chancellor told me I was the

first Class President who did not get booed giving that speech . He also said it was the best

speech he ever heard there. That only inspired me to pursue my life's long dream - To someday

serve the People in the United States Senate. Since then I worked in the Wisconsin State

Legislature as an Aide. I also ran for State Senator at age 23 winning 8 out of 12 Counties in the

GOP Primary. I then served from 1985 - 86 as a Congressional Aide in Washington, DC for my

local US Congressman. Then, in 1988, I became a State Legislator for ten years earning the title

of Maverick. Now, after two years in the private sector, while also helping raise my two young

children, I am now at the prime of my life, more ready than ever to go to work for the People

using all my education, training and experiences to be Wisconsin's Fighting Maverick US Senator.

Maverick? Yes, for those of you who do not know me, I earned that title and am very proud of

it. I believe we need more Mavericks in office not less. I am here to give people that choice.

I have a plan to get rid of the federal income tax forms - April 15th would be a non event.

I know we can cut our total tax burden to 5% for each level of Government, Federal, State and

Local. If we all pay 5% it will work. Right now the very wealthy have far too many tax

deductions and tax credits where a perfect 5% will make them pay more so we can all pay less.

We have families to raise, schools to finance, retirements to plan, bills to pay and jobs that take up

most of our time - WE DESERVE TO KEEP OUR PAY! I will also filibuster to end the corrupt

federal milk pricing system. I come from a farm background and know how to win this one. I am

Pro-Life, against the death penalty, I support the right to bear arms and will defend the 2nd

Amendment. I have a fantastic record voting for and fighting for Veterans, Seniors, Students and

any person who needs me. With a Young family of my own, I will be a strong and needed voice

for Young Families all across America. For more issues, please visit my web page. I have it set

up where you can add any issue by emailing me. (Lorge2000@aol.com)

I am running to win. I have already personally gathered thousands of nomination paper

signatures myself for the US Senate. I am really enjoying talking one on one with all the

thousands of voters all over our great State who I have met so far in the past several weeks and

the hundreds of thousands I still want to meet. I love it so much, I know if you elect me, this will

be the most important yet enjoyable job I'll ever have. I know if I win, it will only be because of

the people electing me, they alone will be my only boss, I will only work for the people, I will be

"The People's Senator". I am very pleased I made this decision to run, to give the voters a clear

choice both in September and November. A Choice is so important, especially now in my race

since we have another chance to repeat the 1978, "Let the People Decide" campaign that made it

clear in this State the millions of voters will decide who wins the election rather than a smoked

filled back room. It is very clear that I am the Candidate who's victory will send a signal to the

power bosses that in Wisconsin the People rule. My campaign stresses issues mainly, but this

opportunity to 'Let the People Decide' is also an important issue. Do we want to live in a World

where the few dictate to the many, or do we want the one person one vote democratic system to

survive for our grandchildren's future? On September 12th, a win for me is a win for people - for

one person one vote. For more information on this topic please see our web page as there are

more crucial matters to take up in this very important election where we as Voters, not an elite

few, will decide who our Next US Senator will be for the next six years.

My total lifelong involvement in democracy is amazing. I have extensive Government

experience even as a young man watching my father serve his 34 years in the Wisconsin State

Senate. I was even the National College Republican of the Year in 1982. I have more fantastic

Republican credentials as well, but I never let the Party control me, I was known for that in the

Legislature. When there was a conflict between my Political Party and my District, I always stood

up for my District - everyone in Outagamie and Waupaca Counties will tell you this. I studied in

over 40 Countries. At age 25, I was on the 1986 GOP State wide ticket as the nominee for State

Treasurer. Yes, It has been a very long and rough road, but I made it, and I did it with Courage,

Conviction and Character - my entire life shows it. These three things my Grandmother instilled

in me. I am very pleased to show you more of my record, again, my web page has much more

information including documentation to verify my strong record fighting for the people. My life is

an open book. I invite you to read it (www.hometown.aol.com/Lorge2000)

Thank you for this opportunity to introduce myself and let you know that I want your vote

on September 12th in the Republican Primary for US Senator - Please mark your calendars.

Kindly check out my web pages and feel free to contact me anytime. I will be sending your local

newspaper all my weekly issue positions as well as other important news releases including

statements I will make on very important issues of the day. Recently I made several major

statements against the rising gas prices. I was one of only a very few who called for full support

of cleaner burning fuels and now the EPA has come out and said I was right. I will stand firm on

my deep convictions and will never be swayed by the special interests that have too much

influence in our government system.
