Who's this guy Captain Bob?
He's a former General Electric Manager who started Sawyer's Sailing School fifteen years ago after obtaining his Coast Guard Captain's license and American Sailing Association (ASA) instructor certification. He's been teaching this Coastal Navigation Course at the local college during winters for the past twelve years.
How do I know that I can trust him if I send my money for the course?
You don't. However, you can check the ASA web page at www.ASA.com and see if Sawyer's Sailing School is listed and check his web page at www.sail2ME.com.
Will this course prepare me for ASA Coastal Navigation Certification?
Yes, that's why Capt. Bob wrote the texbook. If you can complete the cruise problems at the end of the text satisfactorily, you can pass the ASA exam. The exam needs to be taken at an ASA certified school and an additional fee of about $30 will be involved. Sawyer's Sailing School furnishes a certificate after successful completion, but it doesn't carry the national recognition that the ASA certification does.
