Alliance Française de Doylestown
Our History

L'Alliance Française de Doylestown was founded in 1989 by two newcomers to the community who met by chance and discovered something in common -- they enjoyed speaking French and missed the opportunity to do so in this Southeastern Pennsylvania town of  8,000 residents. Tia Foroud, from Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and Brooke  Samuels, a Canadian who had been active in the Alliance Française while living in New York City, put an ad in the local newspaper announcing a get-together for people who would be interested in starting a chapter of the Alliance. They were hoping to attract a core group of as many as fifteen, but 75 people showed up.

One month later the first official meeting took place.  We now have 120 members speaking French with many accents because we come not only from various regions of the United States and France, but from England, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia, Egypt,  Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay.

Through our always growing chapter of the Alliance Française, we have the pleasure of steeping ourselves in the richness of the French language and culture and helping other people discover them.
