WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO...
While I haven't found full-time work as yet, I am getting some work from an independent adjusting company.  That helps as I have my daughter's college tuition to pay for.  Also, in between looking for work and getting some assignments from the i.a. company, my time has been put to good use as I received the green light to do a G-FAN special on traveling to Japan and finding kaiju locations.   More about that below.

Haruo Nakajima Returns To G-FEST!
The original Godzilla suit-actor, Haruo Nakajima returns to G-FEST this summer in Chicago.  Nakajima was the man in the Godzilla suit from 1954 to 1972.  His last Godzilla movie was Godzilla vs. Gigan, which will be screened on July 3rd at the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge, Illinois.  He will be joined by Don Frye, who was the captain of the Gotengo in Godzilla Final Wars (2004) and Robert Scott Field, M-11 in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991).  This will be Nakajima's first G-FEST since G-FEST 2000 in Los Angeles.  As he is now 79, this is likely his last North American convention appearance.  Nakajima will also receive the Mangled Skyscraper Award for 2008.  Don't miss this show!

G-FAN Special gets green light
Last month, I proposed and received the green light from J. D. Lees to begin work on a special issue of G-FAN that will concentrate on kaiju locations, their general & movie histories, how to get there, where to stay, etc.  This will be a G-fan's guide to kaiju Japan sort of on the order of Lonely Planet and other Japan travel guides.   There will be features on passports, JR Rail Pass, immigration and other related topics.

I started at the top (Hokkaido) and made my way down Honshu and wrapped up in Kyushu.  This part took about three weeks and now I am in the process of getting maps, photos and other images and organizing them.  For the most part, the photos will be ones that I took during five trips to Japan since 2001 along with those in J. D.'s collection.

As J. D. is currently moving into a new residence, things will be a bit delayed.  Once he's settled in, we will go over the advertising and promoting (including Diamond Distributors).

Since I have been writing up the locations' histories, I have learned a great deal about different places.

Stay tuned!
