he Balkan Lodge Hotel is located
in the Iffley area of Oxford, close to the River Thames, or Isis as it is known in Oxford. The
hotel is close to Oxford city centre with easy access to the ring road and the M40 motorway connecting
London and Birmingham and their airports. The hotel has its own private secure gated car park for all guests. The 13
bedrooms are comfortably and tastefully furnished and are all en-suite. All rooms have bath/shower and
tea/coffee making facilities plus a colour television with telephone, radio, alarm clock, trouser press
and hair dryer in all rooms. For that little extra luxury we also have a room with a splendid four poster bed and
jaccusi which can also make a romantic honeymoon suite, especially after a wedding reception in our
sister Victoria Hotel.

Our restaurant offers guests a high standard of fine cuisine from our chef's special seasonal menus in
relaxed and comfortable surroundings. Relax in our lounge or have a drink at the bar to rest after a
day out in Oxford or the surrounding countryside.
The hotel has a close access to the Thames river bank where you can walk along the riverbank to either the city
centre or the close by "Head of the River" public house near Iffley Lock and spend a pleasant time watching
the wildlife or pleasure craft moving on the river. For those interested in Britain's industrial history,
a short drive away is the Didcot steam railway museum. If you prefer
the countryside, Oxford is ideally situated for exploring the Ridgeway
footpath, or parts of the Thames path, perhaps even as far as Marlow
or Henley-Upon-Thames. Alternatively to the north is
Chipping Norton, a beautiful old English market town, regarded as one of the "gateways to the
Cotswolds".
For those guests who are interested in the litterary history of Oxford, the Balkan Lodge is close to
two public houses steeped in this tradiation. The Eagle and Child was the location for meetings,
discussions and readings by such luminaries as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, Charles
Williams and Dorothy L. Sayers. As well as being the setting for several scenes in
Thomas Hardy's "Jude The Obscure", the Lamb and Flag was also frequented by Oscar
Wilde and Graham Greene during their time at Oxford University.
