Elllie's Story
Ellie
Forever in our Hearts!!
Ellie was a two year old  flashy dark brindle boxer girl.  She was your typically happy, little kidney bean dancing girl.  Ellie was house trained, crate trained, she was okay on a leash, and LOVED to go for walks.  She was excellent with children of all ages and  got along with other dogs.  She was shy when she first met you, but warmed up and got very playful once she was comfortable.

Ellie was losing her family to the Iraq War.  They were devastated to lose their baby girl boxer, but they didn't have any options.  They felt they were doing the best thing by entrusting her to rescue to find her a new home.  We were heartbroken for their loss and took our end of it very seriously as we do each dog that enters our program.

Ellie was very bonded with her family, especially the four month old baby.  She'd curl up near the baby at any opportunity.   She was going to miss this family something awful, you could see it in her eyes.  We had her settled in at my home for a couple of days of preparation before she was to go to her foster home.  She was doing very well playing with the other dogs etc.  She was definitely depressed.

A couple days passed and we took her to her foster home.  She could go to the ranch and play with Dozer and Muskie.  Now that will lift the spirits of any of them.  It's absolutely beautiful, out in the hills and a great place for the boxers to play.  Unfortunately, we didn't know what was to come.

A couple of hours after I dropped Ellie off at the house in town, the foster mom and dad came home from supper.  The  minute they opened the door to come in Ellie shot out like a rocket and kept on going.  They searched for hours and couldn't find her.  Ellie ran quite a distance and ended up on a highway and was hit by a police officer that was responding to a call.  It was dark, she is a very dark brindle and he didn't see her coming.  He did give us comfort in saying that she did not suffer.  She passed immediately.

Ellie went to the "Bridge" far too young and full of life.  Our hearts are despondant over her loss as are her loving family.  Her foster family is simply devastated.  Ellie was buried in a beautiful area of the Black Hills out at their ranch.

We will forever remember this beautiful Boxer Girl and hold a place for her in our hearts!!
