Gracie arrived in rescue at just under a year old. She had large patches of missing hair across her back, and barely some beginning signs of secondary infection. She was a little hyperactive, had absolutely no obedience training, nor did she know how to live in a home.
Gracie's first owners did try to treat her condition, but unfortunately they weren't using the right treatment. She was properly diagnosed with Demodectic Mange, but was being treated for Sarcoptic Mange. Needless to say, there was no headway in her healing. It was recommended that she should be euthanized due to lack of response to treatment.
With her medical condition and the fact that the family spent little time with her, they made the decision to take her to the local shelter. That's when we were contacted to take her. We agreed sight unseen.
When Gracie was turned over to a rescuer in Wyoming she was taken to the vet for vaccinations and spay. The regular vet was out of town, so the vet on duty that took over the case took one look at Gracie and very angrily said, "this dog should be put down!!" She went ahead with what we wanted done, but she made it known that she was not behind the decision to try to keep her alive and thought we were nuts for trying.
In less than three months time, Gracie was completely healed of Demodex. There was not a spot on her that gave any indication that she had been ill. She quickly learned to be a good doggie citizen in the house and was picking up obedience commands quite easily. She got a long very well with the resident dogs and was an all around nice boxer girl. She just needed someone to see how special she really is and to promise to love and care for her for the rest of her life.
Gracie's lucky day came along when her soon to be human dad decided to adopt her. She had a new best buddy in a gorgeous boxer boy named Jeter and her dad was just about to start school for training canines. Could it be true?? The perfect family for Gracie??? Well of course it was. It always ends up the way it's supposed to. The dogs always go to the right family when time is taken to make sure it's a match.
Gracie's story doesn't end here. Her forever human started a training business in Wyoming and has a page specifically for Gracie. You can visit her there and she how GORGEOUS she looks. You can also see a video of her showing her skills at "heeling" and "come". Here's the link to Gracie's page http://www.brunnerboxers.com/gracie.html . I couldn't be happier for this little girl.
