ADOPTION PENDING
UPDATE: 4-19-08
Piper has made GREAT gains in her new foster home. She now walks beautifully
on a leash. Her crate is no longer her sanctuary, she'd rather stay glued to the
side of her foster mom. She has BONDED with a human. That is just what we were
hoping for. There is another dog there for to play with and they do go to the dog park
and romp around. There are cats, horses etc and Piper is wonderful with all of them.
Piper has taken to crarrying one particular cat around the house by its neck. She
thinks itis her baby and she cleans and grooms this VERY tolerant cat. She also has a
stuffed elephant that she is in love with. Her elephant is very important to her too. Piper
is a very mothering type of dog and that will transfer to her family. She is great with kids,
very gentle and seems to be so happy when she is around them. She has learned some
basic obedience and is very responsive to it. As with all these dogs that have lived outdoors,
they will need consistency in the daily routines that have been established so that they stay
successful with their house training. Piper is currently sleeping on a dog bed at night and does
not have any accidents during that time. For those that work, I would kennel her while you're gone
just to make sure an accident doesn't happen.
Piper will be ready for adoption after April 18th. Her adoption donation is: $275.00
UPDATE: 3-15-08
Piper has went into a foster home of her. She will get constant rehabilitative training
from her foster mom and will get to spend pretty much 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
with her during this training time. Her foster mom is working on building her self
confidence, so she can enjoy life like a normal boxer would. Who would want to live
in constant terror of the world around them? This is very difficult work to rehabilitate a dog
that lived in a puppymill. She spent the first year of her life practically in total darkness, living
in a dark barn. It's no wonder she is so over stimulated by the world around her.
By separating her from her sister, she showed immediate changes. I brought out my
emotionally sound male boxer and she just lit up and wiggled all over the place for him. They
chased each other around the yard and by then, she was ready to wander about the house,
following me around without trying to hide in her kennel or under a table. We then sent her to
her foster home for more intensive rehabilitation. I will continue to post her progress.

UPDATE: 2-10-08
Piper has one of the poutiest boxer faces on the planet. She is so darned cute
you can't help but just love her. She continues to make gains in her behavior in the
house. She likes to play with toys and has been known to be a counter surfer if
no one is looking!!! We continue to work on her potty training, she is very crate trained
and in fact will use it as a place to hide if we don't shut the door on it. Tonight she
jumped up on a Kuranda bed with Brooklyn and just hung out while I did some work
at the kitchen table. She still needs work on leash training and basic obedience.
We just do as much as we feel she can handle. She is so sweet and seems to me the
mother hen to the other dogs, but when you add an unfamiliar female, she's just all
wiggles. You can see from the bottom two pictures when I picked her up, to the upper
pictures that she has gained a great deal of confidence!!
If you're interested in Piper, go ahead and fill out an application. When she's
ready to go, you'll already have the process over and done with.

UPDATE: 1-01-08
Piper is improving daily. Of the three girls that are fostered in one home, she is the
most outgoing and has went so far as to sit on my lap today. She still will not take
treats or food from my hand, but will eat them if you put them in her kennel. I have
Brie, Brooklyn and Piper in one foster home. They are very attached to each other
and they enjoy romping around outside together. Piper is the one that is seeking out
human attention and is FINALLY giving us some boxer wigglebutts!!!! We are taking
baby steps with these girls and are not rushing anything. Piper will likely be ready
for adoption before too long. She will need a family that understands her background
and will let her come out of her shell on her own time. She's easily spooked by
sounds that are unfamiliar, but is going up to everyone in the family for attention. She's
really come a long way. She also has the CUTEST little pouty face I've ever seen.
We will get her outside to update some pictures. All the girls are hard to photograph
because of their fears. You simply can not pose them for pictures.
Piper is a two year old classic fawn female with natural ears and a
cropped tail. Piper has lived her life outdoors, so she is adjusting
to her new life inside the house. She is getting house training,
basic obedience will begin and she is already crate trained. She
is unsure of the leash, so we will have to work on that .
Piper is the first of the four girls that came in the house and
immediately climbed into one of the chairs. :o) Typical boxer, had
to find a soft spot!!! She is very timid and it will take some time to
gain her confidence. Not rewarding the timid behavior is a good
start. Once Piper is spayed and has completed our
assessment/training period, she will be available for adoption.
