I did several scans with my old Visioneer scanner in 2002 that stupified me. This was one of them. The hues are unbelieveably vibrant and the objects are so dimensional that they seem to pop right off the paper.
My early experiments with this scanner were less than brilliant. Not only did I not have a complete grasp of image management, but I ruined almost every image by over compressing .jpg files when the available space on my tiny harddrive shrunk from 6 gigabytes to 17 megabytes! It's a miracle that I managed to take the original murky result to such heights. Luckily, I wasn't pleased with the first scan, Fall Still Life with Feathers. I put that one aside and forgot about it. In 2004 I was sorting images and I happened to re-discover the completely pristine image! By 2004 my Photoshop skill level was much, much refined and I knew enough to archive an uncompressed image and not apply heavy-handed modifications!
Bug lovers: my huntress cat, Weasle, brought a dead dragonfly home (I had to fight her for it.) My cats catch cicadas every summer. These bugs were already dead when they were scanned, but since that time I've figured out how to scan unmolested live creatures.
