Bright Water Farm
Bright Water Farm
Nestled in the woods, overlooking the Susquehanna River is Bright Water House.  It is an old stone farm house just outside Havre de Grace, Maryland, dating back to the 1760's. This is the home of Steve, Kathryn and Victoria Paxton-Hill. There they raise some chickens, sheep and border collies!

Steve's specialty is starting young dogs for herding livestock.  But, he also gives lessons through out the year. Steve is most familiar with the Border Collie.  However, he also will work with other herding breeds. While he will do private lessons and "in house" training, he mainly holds "clinic style" lessons. Steve finds that handlers learn a lot from watching others work.  It also seems a  good place for new handlers to meet other handlers.  They exchange ideas and once getting to know one another start to find different places to practice with their dogs.
Also, at Bright Water Farm Kathryn and Steve host two clinics a year with well known handlers from Great Britain, Canada and of course the good old USA! They have had, Cheryl Jagger-Williams, Aled Owen, Angie Coker, Scott Glen, Jack Chamberlain, and Kathy Knox. They  will not be hosting any guest clinics for 2006.  Instead Steve and Kathryn will be traveling to the Nationals. Steve has qualified three young dogs, Joe, Mac and Tess for the Nursery Finals. Although he will only be able to run two! The Nationals are going to held in Klamath Falls, Oregon towards the end of September.  Steve is  in the process of getting ready for this event.  They  hope to start to have their popular guest clinics again in 2007. However, you can still come and train with Steve, please check the link, Lessons.
The Steppingstone Sheep Dog Trial is no more.  It ran three wonderful years, but the Paxton-Hill's found it to be too much work. Steve and Kathryn are really thankfull for all the support that they received during its three year run.
Kathryn now has her own web site for her art work.  She is a muralist, faux finisher and artist.  Kathryn enjoys painting dogs, sheep and other animals.  She paints on such materials as canvas, wood, pottery, tiles and is currently taking on commisions. Please visit her in Oregon,at the Nationals where she will have a booth.
