Gentleman,

The season is steadily coming to a close and we have two last final events to focus
on.  October 1-3 the unit will be attending Laurel Hill aka "Jeb Stuart Event," that same
weekend, we will also be setting up a table at the Cumberland County gun show at
the Fayetteville Civic Center.  There we shall be setting up to continue our raffle on the
Colt pistol we have purchased and recruiting new members for Co. C 5th NC.

The final event will be in November as we travel south to Charleston, SC, to participate
in the annual Battle of Secessionville event.  For the past two years now, the unit has
attended as federal, portraying our 8th OVI impression.  Both years have been a
tremendous success for the 8th OVI, as we are becoming one of the top federal units
to be attending.  A debate was put up at the past meeting to go as confederate and all
members are urged not to attend as confederate, for the company has voted MAX
effort as federals once again this year.  If you do decide to register confederate, you
may do so as an independent and not as Co. C 5th NC.

We have received seven new members, including Dean Horne, the new company cook!
He comes to us straight out of culinary school, with a vast knowledge in 19th century
cooking techniques and recipes.  So watch out boys, who knows what this lad will be
putting in the pot!  I believe the training for new Lt's and Captain's position should be
coming soon and information on those two subjects will be discussed later on in our
December meeting.

Winter encampment will begin and end, December 15 - January 1.   During this time
all new recruits will be trained and molded into some of the finest military soldiers
placed on the field by Co. C 5th NC.  They will be drilled on manual of arms, field
tactics, and other aspects that purtain to company protocol.  Also 1st Sgt. Chopper
and Capt. Brown are working on new Company by-laws that shall be voted on in early
January of 2005.

Remember that all new recruits are on a 3 month propationary status and will be
subject to pay dues at the beginning of the season for Co. C 5th NC in late
January/early February.  Goodday Gentelman and see you all on the field!
NEWS 4-13-04

Gentleman,

After sheding our winter skins, the spring re-enacting season is about to kick into full
steam!  At the company meeting on April 10, the company was attended by 15 paid
members and attended by one new recruit.  The men took up camp in the newly
formed Co. C 5th NC clubhouse, situated right next to the Brown's residence on
Maryland Drive in College Lakes.  There our banners flew proudly as Capt. Don Brown
discussed the upcoming events for 140th Plymouth and Spotsylvania!

1st Sgt. Chopper discussed a company get together for live fire and a rolling party for
the weekend of April 17-18, 2004.  This rolling party will be in preparation for
Spotsylvania.  If you need information on the event you may want to check out 140th
Spotsylvania there you will find all event information.  If you need unit assignments to
decide on which impression you will be portraying check out ANV-Spotsylvania
information.

Also keep in mind that this will be an early-mid 1864 impression.  Spotsylvania was
the ground breaking battle that was fought almost entirely in the trenches!  The
conditions were brutal and a constant rain was reported by many soldiers, that made
conditions almost unbareable.  Do not take this event lightly, this is a once in a
life-time oppurtunity to re-enact in full-scale trenches!  We are a progressive
mainstream unit, remember that!  Try to limit the load on this trip and carry what you
can on your back!  Although the ANV is camping garrison style at this event, and
anyone is free to do so, we may want to look at reducing our load to get in and out of
the event site easier!
New News: March 2, 2005

Gentlemen, the season has already begun and although this season will be lighter
than last years, let us not forget to still enjoy ourselves.  For it is not the amount of
events we have, but the effort we put into the ones we have set in front of us.

The company continues to grow with each passing season, growing stronger in
numbers and knowledge of our beloved unit/hobby.  Elements of the company
atttended Ft. Anderson two weekends ago and have reported a great success.  After
reading the AAR from Lt. Adj. Royce Yoho, he has assured this company that it looks
promising in the coming months.  Also, 1st Sgt. Chopper is organizing a full-on drill
this coming Saturday (March 5th) at Harmony Hall.  There, each squad will be drilled
thoroughly, there will be little water breaks if the drill is not successful.  Remember, a
soldier's life consisted of, "Drill...Drill...and some more Drill."

We all know Bentonville is steadily approaching, this is to be the biggest event of the
entire season, at least in the  eastern theater of re-enacting.  Numbers are steadily
approaching 5,000 or so.  The 5th has never attended this event, for we were aligned
with a different unit nearly 5 years ago.  I can not stress to you men, how important it
will be for us to look our finest that weekend.  All eyes shall be on us, as we take to
the parade fields for pass and review, and on that very battlefield.  God Bless
Gentlemen!
