The 8th Ohio was formed in northern Fayetteville as a sister company to Co. C 5th NC in late 2002. Created in response to the low attendance of Federal units attending southern events, a need for union soldiers was being discussed at local and national levels. The 5th NC having many members who had family trees that included union ancestors, it was agreed upon that during our normal re-enacting season we would activate the 8th OVI for at least two events per year. The company has gone on to include recognition from organizations such as the National Regiment (8th OVI Co. B) to production companies such as SanVicente who have included the company in their latest film, "Confederate Goliath."
