Aaron Burby wins 2008 Race!
The 28th Bill Burby Fun Run held on July 12th was especially memorable, not only for the gorgeous weather and large turnout, but also because the winner of the 10K race was the son of the race's founder. Aaron Burby's win was cheered by the many members of the Burby family that attended this annual event, which is dedicated to the memory of his father, a beloved Islander. The 2008 race was also in honor of the contributions of Vashon Island Junior Basketball to Island athletics.

The Bill Burby Fun Run is held on a Saturday in July in conjunction with Vashon Island’s Strawberry Festival. The race is named in honor of Bill Burby, co-founder of the original Strawberry Festival 10K Run. In February of 1989, Bill died suddenly of cardiac arrest. Bill was an inspiration to all of those whose lives he touched. He was a devoted family man, passionate teacher and coach, and active community member. He had a real zest for life! This race is a celebration of Bill's joy of life.
Participants in the race are offered a choice of 10K run, 5K run or 5K walk. The route is a looping, paved, two-lane country road with hills. The course is very scenic, but also very challenging! It is certified and sanctioned by USATF. Male & Female winners of the 10k and 5k runs will receive plaques and the top finishers in each Division will receive medals (1st through 3rd) or ribbons (4th through 6th). No awards are given for the walk. Official times are posted following the race and are also available on line at the Budu Racing web site.
