Movie Make-up Magic
COSMETEX (c) 2002 Rubber Texture Stamps, for special make-up EFX are used like a rubber stamp and an ink pad. In this case, the ink pad is a layer of make-up on the back of your hand.
For the cracks on The Radiation Ghoul and The Virus Creature in the above photos, I used black cream-type make-up. I applied an even layer of make-up on the back of my hand using my fingers. I gently pressed the texture stamp down onto the make-up, lifted the stamp off, and carefully press on the area I wanted to look cracked. I lifted it off gently from the face, and repeat the process where I wanted more cracks. Powder generously to set the final make-up with talc, or you can use unscented baby powder. Brush away any excess powder. Use a water damp sponge or tissue to eliminate the last residue of powder.
The crack stamp effect is the last step in completing the make-up. To begin with, I left the skin it's normal pale color. I used dark brown shadows to accent certain areas. I made some portions of the face look irratated by adding a muted red color. To make the eyes more pronounced, I lined the bottem lid with a dark bown eyebrow pencil. Then gave them a tired sore look by using a red eyebrow pencil on the inner lid, close to the eyes.
I don't recommend working this close to the eyes. It's too easy to infect the eye or damage it, if you aren't careful. I'm a professional and have a lot of experience in doing it right, and take many precautions in doing so. I cannot predict how you will accomplish it, so I have to warn you against it. Your make-up using the crack stamp will look very effective without the red lining.
Experimentation and practice will give you mastery of the rubber stamp technique.
Good luck, and have fun,
Dave
