Marcia graduated from high school in West Lafayette, Indiana and attended Hiram College in Ohio, 1919-1921, and graduated with a B.S. in mathematics from Purdue University in 1923. She took training for her singing voice in New York City from 1923 to 1925 and in Boston from 1925 to 1926. Following her marriage in 1926, she lived with her husband in Cambridge, Massachusetts for one year until he completed his law degree from Harvard University in 1927. They moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she lived until her death in 1974.

She taught music (voice) at Hiram College for 25 years from 1939 to 1964. During this time she was a soloist for several Cleveland Churches, and appeared in operas with the Cleveland Orchestra.

Howard attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and was graduated from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California, with a B.A. in 1924. He received his L.L.B. degree from Harvard Law School in 1927 and started to practice law in his father's office in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon his father's death in 1929, he became the Mortgage Loan Correspondent for the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, and later added other insurance companies to his mortgage investment business. From 1941 to 1968, he was the Chairman of the Board of the Trustees of Hiram College. From 1943 until her death in 1974, Marcia and Howard lived in Shaker Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

Her husband, Bert Powell, and her were at one time the owners of the Kenyon Grist Mill located in Usquapaug, Rhode Island just off of Rt. 2. They attended all of the state and county fairs to publicize their "Rhode Island Johnny cakes", which in the proceeding years became nationally known and regionally famous.

Bert also worked as an insurance salesman and later as a realtor. He contracted alzheimers disease later in his life.

They resided in South County (Washington County), Rhode Island.
