About a year after Benjamins grandfather came to Schaghticoke to live, the Kenyons began to move westward again. Benjamin (12111) started the movement west. In 1796, after having married Isabel Ketchum, he joined his sister Elizabeth and her husband Benjamin Ketchum, and the four of them loaded their possessions onto sleighs. With them were the three Ketchum children, Hannah being but a year old.
They drove to McDonough, Chenango County, in southern central New York. Settlements had started there the year before. In log houses on adjoining farms, about two and a half miles southeast of the village of McDonough, they settled in the wilderness. These farms were located on a hill east of Geneganslet Creek.

This family came to McDonough, New York with the family of Benjamin Kenyon (12111). Two years after that trip, Elizabeth died at the age of 27. She was the first or according to one account, the second white person to die in Chenango County.
Her husband moved to Smithville, and later back again to the southern border of McDonough, where he lived until his death in 1859. He married Hannah Lent as his second wife. They had Isaac, who married a Hotchkiss girl, and then lived in Smithville and Binghamton. They also had Sarah, who married Hiram Reed, a Smithville and Greene farmer. (One account stated that William Ketchum (1211A1) was not Elizabeths child, both a child of Hannah Ketchum (1211AA), and that Elizabeth's first born was a Benjamin Ketchum. This benjamin married Laura Snedecor, who had Hannah. The latter married, 15 Oct 1842, to George Loomis, and died 25 Aug 1892 in Farmington, New York.)
Hannah (1211AA), the daughter of Elizabeth and Benjamin Ketchum, lived eleven years, from 1803 to 1814, with her grandparents in Onondaga County. Then she married Benoni Kenyon (12126).

The farm that he afterwards owned was in "the hollow below the woods" next to that of Benoni Kenyon (12126). Alexander Wickes died at the age of 82.
Mary Kenyon Wickes was the only member of her parent's family who did not move away from Rensselaer County. When her father, John Kenyon (1211) of Onondaga County died, he left half of the residue of his estate to her. Alexander was one of the executors. The witness to the will was John L. Wickes (1212B1).
About 1844, Alexander was the supervisor of Valley Falls, New York, and Merrit Wickes was the Superintendent of Schools.

John Kenyon (12112) moved to Onondaga County, New York with his father, at which time he had a wife and two children.
On 1 march 1820 his 75 year old father deeded him, for the sum of $100.00, 50 acres of the eastern end of his Onondaga farm. later, on 22 march 1827, John and Achsa sold this land to his brother Israel, for which they received $1220.
Upon the death of John's father, their daughter hannah received 1/14th of his real estate.

Ephraims wives parents, of Easton, had come from Westerly, Rhode Island. Thankful Wells Hiscock was the daughter of Simeon who was the son of Joseph and ---- (Greene) Hiscox. Her mother was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Randall) Wells. Edward Wells was the son of Thomas and Sarah (Rogers) Wells; and Elizabeth Randall was the daughter of Matthew and Eleanor Randall. Thankful Hiscock had four sister and one brother. They were Mary, Elizabeth, Sally, Cynthia and Simeon.
Ephraim Kenyon followed his brother and sister to Chenango County, along with his bride, before 1804. He had there, as his sone Clark W. Kenyon told, about 250 acres of land. After seven years, he moved to Onondaga County.
On 14 April 1810, his father, John Kenyon (1211), gave him "for the love and goodwill that I have for him", a deed of 40 acres at the western end of his Onondaga farm. Near the western end of this lot, Ephraim placed his house, garden and barn. From the brook on the east, the land slopes upward to the house. It was covered later, with an apple orchard next to the road.
Their third child lived only 16 months. Ephraim died one month after the wedding of his son Clark W. Kenyon (121131). His will and the inventory of his property were among the papers of his brother Israel (12114), who was the executor of his estate. the will was signed just 19 days prior to his death and it was witnessed by John Kenyon Jr. (12112).
To his wife Thankful, he left one third of the farm, its appurenances, and the use of part of the house. To his grand-daughter, Martha Ann Stuart, $25.00 and the use of his cows. The money was not to be paid to her until she was eighteen years old. The remaining two-thirds of the farm, and the rest of the estate (valued at $462.62) went to Ephraim's only son, Clark Wells Kenyon (121131), who was one of the appraisers of the estate.
For farmers and other persons interested in early farm life, the inventory of these articles on this 40 acre Onondaga farm in 1829, located two miles from the nearest store, is herein given, but condensed into much smaller space than the original listing.

Sarah, according to the record, came to Onondaga with her parents in the spring of 1803. But that same year, now 19 years of age, she became the wife of Bennett Bryant (Bryan) of Schaghticoke. For four years they lived in Schaghticoke, not far from Sarah's sister, Mary Wickes.
Bennett Bryant was a mechanic, a manufacturer of farming mills and wagons, and of yarn winding machines of his own invention. He had a brother, Richard, who also lived in Schaghticoke.
They moved to Onondaga Hill in 1807. Two people who worked for Bennett at his factory in Onondaga Hill were, John Kenyon (12113) and John Kenyon (121111).
In 1833 they moved from Onondaga Hill to a farm at Luce Hill, Cortland, New York. On June 6th in 1846, they sold all the property, including real estate due Sarah by the terms of her fathers will, to her brother Israel (12114), about eight (8) acres, for $400.00.
Bennett Bryant died in 1848 of heart disease, while plowing. Six years later, Sarah moved to Gridley Hollow, in Virgil, Courtland County, and remained there for 21 years. Then in 1875, when she was 91, she moved to State bridge, a station on the D.L. and W. Railroad between Syracuse and Binghamton, New York.
After 1880 she lived in Marathon, N.Y., with her son, Lewis (1211D1). There she died, on the last day of January, 1888. Just three months of being 104 years old.
Two days before her death, she fed herself at the table. But for many years she had been totally deaf and nearly blind. Her mind also had failed, so that she did not know even her children. Her oldest daughter, Eliza (1211DA) lived a little over a century also.
Sarah was always an industrious woman, and an economical housewife. She made most of her own, and her children's clothing. She was a hearty eater, and ate solid food until the end. From the age of 25, she smoked tobacco.

As a boy in Schaghticoke, Israel and his cousin Benoni Kenyon (12126), both being the youngest sons in large families, about the same age and living next to each other, were and remained close friends.
Israel was 15 when his father took him to Onondaga. The Strong family which had moved here from Colchester, Connecticut, were neighbors, with a family of 12 children, of whom Lydia was the eldest, some three years younger than Israel Kenyon. Then came a brother George, and a sister Demis, two and five years younger than Lydia.
When Israel was 24, in 1812, he and Lydia were married. They had children every second year, but ten weeks after the birth of their fourth child, Lydia died. Less than six months later, her sister Demis was married to Israel and the two year cycle of children was continued with a break.
Israel began to buy land about 1818. On March 1st of that year he acquired 24.6 acres from Henry Olds, for $638. This lot was across the road from his brother Ephraim's forty acres, and was a part of lot 68 of "the late Onondaga Reservation". This was the first of a number of land purchases he made, between the "north and south roads", and reaching eventually to the intersection of the two roads at Red Point.
On March 22, 1827, he bought from his brother John () the 50 acres that his father had given him seven years before, Israel paying $1220 for the land. Nine days later his father gave him, for $100, the 50 acres adjoining this lot.
Four days after this, he bought 4 acres from John Palmer for $25.00 and acre. He and Palmer had owned the land together, and had been paying the State for it and this transaction was the settlement between them. The four acres was a square piece of land in the southwestern corner of lot 86, across the road from Ephraim's house.
On 23 July 1834, eight days after the birth of his eighth children he bought 35 1/2 acres in lot 98, which was some distance from his other land. He paid $800 for it, to R. Mann. Eighteen months later he sold the property for $1000 to Royal F. White. On 16 Jan 1839, he purchased 10 acres in lot 86 for $575, from Thomas Caruthers. This land adjoined on the east, land that Israel already owned.
On 17 March 1842, Alfred Hayden () and his wife sold Israel 80 acres in Paw Paw County, Michigan for $200. This land was a third of the allotment given to him on 1 May 1839 by President Martin Van Buren, for his military service.
Israel bought another small farm on 25 Feb 1845, paying $1150 for 23 acres; 11 acres of it being in lot 86, just east of the 1839 purchase. He also owned the 12 acres in the southwest corner of lot 87.
On 23 August 1847, he made his final purchase. It was 44.82 acres, a part of his father's farm, east of Clark Wells Kenyon. This piece was purchased from Eleazer Loomis, builder of the Loomis Hill church. It seems likely that John Kenyon, Sr. had borrowed $1000 from Loomis, and as a security had given him a claim on this land. To clear the title for Israel, John's executor, Alexander Wickes, deeded the land to Loomis, who, the same day deeded it to Israel, receiving $2016 in cash and a mortgage of $1000. Israel now owned all of his father's original 200 acres except the 40 acres of the Clark Kenyon farm.
The whole cost of Israel's land purchases, about 325 acres in all, was near $7000. He sold a small portion, but kept the major part: he had a number of sons to work it, and who were likely to inherit it.
It was probably before 1845 that he built the house in which he afterwards lived, opposite his father's.
Israel was for a time the school trustee. In 1845, Lucy Jacob, the teacher of the district, gave him a receipt for wages paid her.
He had blue eyes, while Demis' eyes were black. Like other men of the family, he was bald early in life. Politically he was a Democrat, but he took both the Republican and Democratic newspapers.
Israel had been to Michigan to see the property he bought there, but brought back and infection which, in his 60th year, placed him in the grave.
His wife Demis lived 18 years longer than him. His will, made six days prior to his death, left to her, the household furniture and clothing, the use of the house and of 83 1/2 acres of land, 38 1/2 acres of it being on the same side of the road as the house and west of the 23 acres bought in 1845, and the 45 acres purchased from Eleazer Loomis the year before.
These lands he bequeathed to his son Curtis, to be delivered after Demis' death. the rest of the estate, real and personal, in both New York and Michigan, went to his other children, Lewis, Henry, Clarissa, Celestia and Emily. Israels Jr.'s share went to his father less children. From Henry's portion was to be deducted a sum of $1150 formerly advanced to him. The executor was Rufus Cossit.
Cossit, on 9 Nov 1848, deeded to the children of Israel Kenyon, Jr () the 23 acres bought from Samuel S. Weaver in 1845. The following Jan 30th he gave to Celestia and Emily, jointly, a deed to 50 acre on the south side of the road, east of Curtis's land. Clarissa Phillips () was given 25 acres east of her sister's land, and eventually she acquired 25 acres from Emily. Curtis also eventually bought 25 acres from Celestia. In each of the above transfers, there were also payments of cash.
Among the business papers left by Israel, were these three receipts of peculiar interest. They were for three coffins:
On 3 Mar 1837, Israel bought of N.C. and E. Gardnier of
Syracuse, "A first quality Cherry Coffin, and linen handles
for it", for $8.50, and a name-plate for $2.50. This coffin
was to hold the body of his son Ephraim, aged 21.
The second purchase, 18 Sept 1847, of Charles Rust & Co.,
Syracuse, was "A cherry coffin and case," $10.00. It was for
his son Israel, who was 25. It was paid for in part with
three bushels of potatoes, at 50 cents a bushel.
The third coffin, also bought of Rust & Co., on 27 June
1848, cost $15.00, consisting of "A Coffin, Case, Plate, and
Handles". Of course that was for Israel himself, in his 60th
year.
Israel's widow, Demis Strong Kenyon, was left with his eldest son Lewis who though 34 years of age, was a bachelor and afflicted with tuberculosis, and the three youngest children, the eldest of whom was Curtis, age 17. But Lewis died four months later. Demis and young Curtis proved to be a good team for farming and were prosperous. The farm was well stocked with animals and equipment. The house, barns, and surrounding fences were new and kept well painted. A receipt left by Demis, shows that in 1850, she paid Orry Rowley, $15 for painting the house.
After Demis and Curtis had passed away, the farm was sold and later neglected. Demis died in 1866 at the age of 70. During her widowhood, five of her grandchildren had died, but there were 12 left, and of her 23 great-grandchildren, only one died before reaching maturity. Demis was a calm, substantial woman, deliberate in speech and movement, kind and gentle to her children and grandchildren. The continued whirring of her spinning wheel, the motion of her knitting needles was well missed by her relatives.

He was a farmer and lived with his father in Schaghticoke, N.Y. The house was a frame house built by his father in `the hollow below the woods'. In 1832, 74 acres of their land was sold to Munson Smith.
When a new brick house was built by Benoni in 1847, their two eldest daughters Dorcas and Lydia had been married for more than 10 years, and did not move into the new home with the others. The old home was then converted into a carriage house and its wide porch removed.
Benoni's brother Christopher at first lived next to him, but later sold his farm to Moses Buckley, his son-in-law, and moved to Easton, New York. In 1864, he was taken sick with smallpox. Benoni came to see him, took the disease, and died of it himself, at the age of 75. Moses Buckley sold his farm to Alonzo Kenyon (11213411 ?), of Cambridge, New York.
