He was born in Branch County, Michigan and came to Elgin, Illinois when a child, just after his father enlisted in the Union Army. His father died when Elwood was just 11 years old, which make it necessary for him to leave school at 14 years of age to support his mother and two younger sisters. He studied law in a law office in Elgin, and was admitted to practice in 1895. He served on the city council of Elgin for six consecutive years. In 1935 he was still practicing law and widely known in his locality. He was an active member of the Republican party.

Alfred and Grace both graduated from high school in Medina, Ohio and from Hiram College in 1894 and 1897 respectively. In 1898 Alfred earned his M.A. in Mathematics from Harvard University. That fall he accepted a position in the Math department at Purdue University. He later became the head of the department and continued to serve on the Executive Committee of the University until his death. His will is on file in the probate court of Tippecanoe County, Indiana.

After Alfreds death, Grace married Herbert Louis Jones of Girard, Ohio on 28 December 1934. He died in January of 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio.

He graduated from high school in Medina, Ohio and from Hiram College in 189?. He earned his M.A. in English from the University of Chicago in 1903 and a Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1908. He taught Greek and Mathematics at Western Kentucky College 1898-1899. He was a professor of Greek at Christian University in Canton, Missouri 1899-1901. He was fellow in English at the University of Chicago 1903-1904. He was a scholar and assistant in English at Harvard University 1905-1906. In 1906, he accepted a teaching position at Butler College in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he became a full professor and head of the English department before leaving in 1916.

In 1916 he moved to Hiram College, Ohio were he remained as a full professor until his death. In 1944 he became Emeritus Professor of English.

He was a student of English language and phonetics at the University College, London, England 1926-1927, where he received the Soames Prize for Research in Phonetics. He received and L.L.D. degree from Western Reserve University in 1954. He was an author of textbooks in English and phonetics, and was the editor of phonetic terms and consulting editor of pronunciation of the G.C. Merriam Webster New International Dictionary (2nd Edition). He was the co-author of "A Pronouncing Dictionary of American English", 1944.

The firm's name was "The Kenyon Remedy Company, Inc.". One of the medicines sold was "Kenyon Ointment". He was also a member of an Elkhart orchestra.

He then bought a drug store in Altamount, New York. In 1920 a second Drugs and Hardware store was purchased in Schoharie, where they were living in 1928.

For a time, he sold insurance in Elkhart, Indiana. In 1902 he was employed by the Wolverton Works of Quincy, Michigan. Later he was with a musical instrument manufacturing company in Convis. After 1934, he was living in Elkhart and was in poor health.

In 1926 he began teaching Commercial geography in the High School in Jackson, Michigan. Six years later he died of spinal meningitis. his wife's father was born on 21 July 1851 at Sodus Point, new York and died on 31 March 1934 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Her mother was born on 15 January, 1863 and died on 20 December, 1933 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

After Harolds death, Rachel was in the employ of Michigan University.

He graduated in 1910 from the Syracuse Central High School and from Syracuse University in 1914 as an E.E. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity; worked since 1914 for the Incandescent Lamp department of the General Electric Company; One year as an electrical engineer at their Cleveland headquarters; then went to their Providence, Rhode Island Base Works in 1915 as an assistant supervisor, becoming the superintendent in 1916, and manager in 1930.

In May of 1918 he enlisted as a private in the 78th Division, where he was a part of Company F 310th Infantry. He sailed within the month with his division for England and France. he served as a corporal and acting sergeant in the battles of St. Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne. During the latter, he was sent to officer's training school. He returned to the United States and the Providence Base Works in July-August of 1919.

He was a member of the beneficent Congregational Church, mt. Vernon Lodge of Masons, Boards of Directors of the Providence YMCA, the Home for Aged men and Couples, and Trustee on William Hall Public Library in Edgewood.

After his marriage, they lived in providence until 1925, then in Edgewood, Cranston, Rhode island until 1946 when his family moved to a farm in West Greenwich, Rhode Island which was purchased several years earlier.

Emily Voelker Kenyon, was the daughter of Frederick Anton Voelker, born 1867 and died 26 February 1928. her mother was Anna Marie (Hill) Voelker, born on 4 December 1870, and married on 28 December 1892. Emily was a secretary at the YWCA in Providence before her marriage. She was born in Booneville,Indiana and liver with her parents in Booneville, Evansville, Woonsocket, R.I., Providence and Cranston, Rhode Island.

Leonard Curtis Kenyon graduated from the Syracuse Central High School and Syracuse University, M.E. in 1917. A month before his graduation, he enlisted in the Army, war having been declared against Germany. He joined the Officers Training Camp at Madison Barracks, Sackets Harbor, New York. After training there and at Fort Monroe, Virginia, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps on 19 August 1917. After further training at Fort Totten, he sailed for France on 9 May 1918 with the 58th Regiment of the Coast Artillery Corps. He was commissioned First Lieutenant on 12 October 1918. During most of the time in France he served as Battalion Supply Officer, including several weeks when the regiment was in contact with the enemy.

After returning home, he worked at Nela Park, Cleveland Ohio., at the National Lamp Works of the General Electric Company, from June until November 1919. He later worked with the Illinois Miniature Lamp Works in Chicago, Ill. until February 1919. He also worked with the Franklin Automobile Company in Syracuse, New York in its manufacturing, Engineering, and Service Departments until 1924.

In July of 1924, he was a salesman, and after November 1925 was Service Manager of the Franklin-Williams Company of Kansas City. After the failure of the franklin Automobile Company, he engaged in a sales business in Kansas City, by use of automatic vending machines.

Merle Jane Weaver Kenyon, his wife, was born near Grand Tower, Ill. Her parents were Jasper O. Weaver, born 13 Jan 1868 near Solesberry, Ind; died 2 Feb 1926 in Kansas City, Mo, and Nancy Belle (Love) Weaver, born 14 Feb 1874 near French Lick Springs, Ind.; died 6 May 1921 in Kansas City, Mo.

Nancy Weaver was a daughter of George Love and Elvira Belle (Poindexter) Lover, born 4 July 1854 in Alina County, Tennessee and died May 1924 in Kansas City, Mo. Nancy Belle (Lover) Weaver's brother, Edward Lover, was an engineer in a canning factory in Hooperston, Illinois in 1935.

Dr. Benjamin Carpenter was born 30 Dec 1876 and Mandana Carpenter was born 22 June 1877 in Keene Valley, New York and died 29 April 1944 in Whitehall, New York.

Since 1925 Charles Carpenter was employed by the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company, in the Betterment Plant, System Operating, and System Planning Departments. At that time they were living in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Charles Carpenter had two brother, Robert Holt Carpenter, born 29 January 1900, a teacher of English who lived in Winnetka, Ill., and Benjamin Franklin Carpenter, Jr., born 9 April 1908, who also lived in Winnetka. Both brothers, like Charles, were Cornell graduates.

In later years, when his wife had an appendicitis she was given emergency surgery on her dining room table.

After his death, his wife married Richard Bristow in 1913. They had two daughters, Mary E. Bristow, born 3 May 1915 and Annie F. Bristow, born 7 Mar 1920, died 28 July 1967. Mary Bristow was a school teacher in Kingston and never married.

He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1921 and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation. He was awarded the Dr. Henry Van Dyke prize at the U.S. Naval Academy in 1921. In 1924-25 he served as captain, Gendarmerie d'Haiti (Constabulary Detachment) and was commissioned 1st lieutenant in August 1925, and captain on 29 May, 1934. In December of 1925 he was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Virginia. he served in Nueva Segovia in the occupation of El Chipote and 16th Company in the Jinotega area during the elections in 1928. He commanded the Marine Detachments on the U.S.S. Ashville, and U.S.S. Southery, on different tours. He served on various details as judge advocate of general courts. He was stationed at Quantico, Virginia. 1934, on detail as intelligence officer on staff of the 1st Battalion, Fleet Marine Force. He began his work on Kenyon genealogy in 1919.

His wife was a direct descendant of Chancellor de Saussure of the Supreme Court of South Carolina, who served as director of the Mint at Philadelphia during the administration of Washington.

When Pearl died in 1931, her mother obtained legal custody of the six children.
