What is New Member Recruitment?
Recruitment is the process through which individuals interested in joining a sorority learn about those on campus and each sorority learns about the girl interested. The importance of recruitment is that it allows for the mutual selection of an individual to join a sorority.
When is Recruitment for Kappa Beta Gamma?
The specific dates of Recruitment change every school year, but always held once during the Fall Semester (Formal Recruitment) and once during the Spring Semester (Informal Recruitment). For specific dates please contact the Office of Greek Affairs at Loyola University.
What happens during recruitment?
Girls going through the Recruitment process are referred to as Potential New Members (PMNs). During Recruitment, PMNs meet members from each sorority and participate in games and exercises to help better understand each Chapter. These may include watching videos, looking at pictures and learning about events important to the Chapter. Being that the selection is mutual, these activities help determine for the individual which sorority they choose and also allow the Chapters to determine which girls are best for them.
Formal Recruitment (in the Fall Semester) is 4 days long, beginning on Thursday and ending Sunday.
Why go through Recruitment?
Sororities offer members a wide array of support and benefits. These include philanthropies, community service opportunities, social events, and academic scholarships. A sorority provides a supportive environment and a national network of sisters. Most importantly, sororities provide close friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
Why be a Kappa Beta Gamma?
As a member of Kappa Beta Gamma, you will find a welcoming group of amazing girls who sincerely care about one another and are always ready to have a good time. KBG's have diverse interests and backgrounds which all members cherish and respect.
What is a legacy?
A legacy is defined as a PNM whose grandmother, mother, aunt or sister was or is a member of Kappa Beta Gamma.
Can I go abroad for a year and still be a member?
YES! We encourage all members to participate in exchange programs if they believe it will enrich their academic experiences. We have a special status for members who wish to go abroad. They are considered Chapter members while abroad and may return to Active Status upon their return to Loyola. In fact, each semester KBG usually has at least 5 sisters studying abroad. We keep in touch with the girls and send them weekly reports of all sorority events.
What is Kappa Beta Gamma's stereotype?
Stereotypes are something that the Greek System at Loyola University would like to avoid. Please remember that most stereotypes are exaggerated or completely untrue. Therefore the sisters of Kappa Beta Gamma do not encourage the use of stereotypes for themselves or for other organizations on campus.
KBG's are a diverse and interesting group of women who consider themselves a close community where they are encouraged to grow and prosper in a safe and secure environment. Differences between individuals are celebrated and respected and we pride ourselves in the fact that our members include women from all ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds.
