Modern Country Line Dancing was known to have originated from the U.S in the 70s. The sport became popular in Singapore only in the late 90s when the Americans introduce it here. Initially, there was a small group of merry makers that took up this sport and they danced only in pubs. As the sport got popular sometime in the late 90's. they started dancing outside. One of the popular area was Riverside where they do it on Saturday nights. After this event became known, it spread like wild fire and we have about s 9,000 dancers as of today. Some are not so active and prefer to dance once in a while whereas many of the dancers do so at least twice a week (in jamborees).
We see a mixture of dancers with the younger ones twirling their ways to pop music and the older ones swaying to their country music.
