Mixing natural spirituality, a belief that humanity is rooted in a living, feeling earth, and an awareness of scientific ecological principles, Eagle Man draws on centuries of Native American wisdom to offer practices and ceremonies that reestablish a nurturing relationship with nature. Ed (Eagle Man) McGaa is a registered tribal member of the Oglala Sioux OST 15287 and was born on the Pine Ridge reservation. He received his Bachelor's degree from St. John's University, earned a law degree from the University of South Dakota, and has studied under Chief Eagle Feather and Chief Fool's Crow, Sioux holy men. He is honored by the Sioux for having participated six times in the Sun Dance ceremony. He also served as a fighter pilot in the Marine Corps in Vietnam, flying 110 combat missions, receiving 8 air medals and 2 Crosses of Gallantry, and was recommended for a Distinguished Flying Cross. |

I love a people who have always made me welcome to the best they had. I love a people who are honest without laws, who have no jails and no poorhouses. love a people who keep the commandments without ever having read them or heard them preached from the pulpit. I love a people who never swear, who never take the name of God in vain. I love a people who love their neighbors as they love themselves. I love a people who worship God without a bible, for I believe that God loves them also. I love a people whose religion is all the same, and who are free from religious animosities. I love a people who have never raised a hand against me, or stolen my property, where there was no law to punish for either. I love a people who have never fought a battle with white men, except on their own ground. I love and don’t fear mankind where God has made and left them, for there they are children. I love a people who live and keep what is their own without locks and keys. I love all people who do the best they can. And oh, how I love a people who don’t live for the love of money!

A comment from the Author:
In regard to the Declaration by
Chief Arvol: I think Arvol Looking Horse is a good man and under much pressure
from various entities, yet I also believe that the staunch traditionalists who
oppose him also have strong merit. For your information some very, very strong
traditionalists want to hold more to Chief Fools Crow's philosophy of teaching
the Dominant Society that they must change. With the Four Horses of the
Apocalypse fast approaching, Heat (Heating of the planet), Thin (Thinning
Ozone), Gone Resources and Too Many, (Over population) the Dominant Society must
change or we are all doomed. This is the subject of my next book. I therefore
have my views but being human, like all humans, I am as prone to error as
anyone. "What the hell do I know?" is one of my favorite sayings. I therefore
ask all non-tribal enrolled people to contemplate seeking your personal wotai
stone and utilize this item as your main beseechment item instead of the pipe. I
think more harmony can be promoted this way. Does Creator really care if you
beseech with a stone which it made or a pipe which you made? The staunch
traditionalist under Chief Arvol can then be appeased for he too seeks harmony
and world change. Let the prepared and studied tribal traditionalists utilize
the pipe only, as Chief Arvol has requested. Much goes into being a Sioux holy
person, one sweat lodge, one vision quest, one sun dance does not give you the
power of Chief Fools Crow or Chief Eagle Feather. Too many first time sun
dancers have gone on to think they are instant holy men, my observation. This
has seriously displeased the traditional people. I also feel the same goes for
the tribal Sun Dance. I also respect the dissenting traditionalists where they
are at also as they foresee the future generations. Time will tell as we all
pass by. I have given up my pipe in that if I ask that you use a wotai stone if
you are non-tribal then I should walk my talk. I also realize I have no right to
ask anyone to change their spiritual ways or holy objects as long as they are
not harming anyone. I have been using my wotai stone which came to me in a
powerful manner, and have been quite comfortable with it when I do lodge, which
is less and less as I grow older. I also feel that the lodge (Inipi) is owned by
no one nor is Vision Quest. The Romans and the Scythians among many world wide
had spiritual lodge and even Christ and Moses is reputed to have Vision Quested
to their concept of the Higher Power - the Great Mystery to us Sioux. I also
abhor a priesthood and send out a strong message against any concept that the
Sioux should evolve toward a priesthood. No Popes, no Cardinals, no Bishops!
Creator is a Mystery and all two legged are fallible! Lastly, I have had a few
detractors in my time. As long as you speak the verified truth about me I have
no disharmony with you. However, if you are lying or based on sheer jealousy,
you will be mine in the Spirit World which I believe is all truth. I shall
chastise you forever, as a victim of many misdeeds shall torment its perpetrator
in order to reek justice. Worse if you detract from Chief Fools Crow's or Chief
Eagle Feather's harmony or Black Elk's great vision. Creator is all truth and I
do believe the Spirit World is likewise. Such is my beliefs.
