Introduction:
Our business information is detailed in our executive summary and grant proposal.  In the grant proposal you will also find letters of endorsement from community agencies and individuals.  The purpose of this presentation is to answer questions about our recovery house project, how it will operate, and explain the guidelines involved in its functions.  Please keep in mind that this will explain mostly the basic and fundamentals of the recovery house as we are just now approaching this phase of development, and is not the final drafting.

What prompted the recovery house idea?
“The specific and primary purpose of the Ellensburg Alano Club, Inc. is to further by all proper and legitimate agencies and means, the dissemination of spiritual and moral instruction for the enlightenment of the general public to the diseases known as addiction/alcoholism and the social problems arising therefrom. To engage in other and further activities as shall promote the welfare of people interested in the disease of addiction/alcoholism and to be of service to those who wish to engage or otherwise participate in the functions of the 12 step groups that meet at our facility”  [From Articles of Incorporation].

As you saw from the letters of endorsement, members of the club are active in our community.  Through these community interactions we began to see a need for a recovery house in Ellensburg.  Many people who attend meetings are required to do so by ADDS, DOC, Juvenile Probation, and other agencies.  Combined with the general public, the influx of people became a great financial burden.  Not long afterward we were informed that because of the city’s decision to allow a Fred Meyer’s to be built, the club was going to have to relocate after nearly twenty years.  There was no possibility we could afford the costs involved in starting anew, and so we began our grant proposal project to start a new club.  The Incorporates and our supporters met to discuss the idea of a new club and a recovery house; the decision was made to pursue it.  The next part of this prospective will cover some basic guidelines and requirements of the Ellensburg Alano Club Recovery House.

What guidelines will the recovery house follow?
The Ellensburg Alano Club, Inc. has included with this presentation a copy of our by laws and Articles of Incorporation, these will be a part of the overall guidelines used in our recovery house. The twelve steps and traditions will make up another large part, but other useful tools will be incorporated in to it as well. The members of the Ellensburg Alano Club, Inc. will make up the “pool” that the Board of Directors (who are responsible for the direct operations of the recovery house) is elected from. The Directors will use the by laws and charter in the daily and monthly operations of the recovery house and are accountable to the Incorporates.

How will the recovery house function?
The recovery house will have four phases each resident will be required to complete, they must complete one before moving on to the others. The mission of the recovery house is to give each resident the chance to practice what they have learned in a safe, clean & sober, caring environment.

Phase One
First phase residents will make up  “teams” that will be responsible for the kitchen (meals etc.), cleaning bathrooms, laundry, donations, yard work, and other such work details. Their main focus will be on completing the 12 steps (through an appointed sponsor), recovery issues and light work detail. Phase one can last from 30 to 45 days

Phase Two
Second phase residents have duties as well. Their jobs are termed as Department Heads and they check on the 1st phase peoples job performance, make up “needs” lists, chair meetings, and help 1st phasers adjust to recovery house setting.  2nd phasers main focus of recovery will be using the principles they have learned in daily activities and interactions with others. They will also prepare 1st phasers for 2nd phase as the 2nd phasers move into 3rd  phase.

Phase Three
Third phase residents have no actual “duties” chore-wise. Their main focus will be on further education, vocation, or job search. They will be taught how to create resumes and other job search & interviewing skills through our contacts at agencies like OIC, IAMCARES, DVR, and others. 3rd phasers are preparing to re-enter the community. 3rd phasers have a special obligation, to relate to the 2nd phasers how things are going for them and to share their experience, strength and hope with them. 3rd phasers have duties at the Club where they continue to use the support of 12 step groups that meet there and carry the message to those who still suffer. They do that by chairing meeting, sponsoring people, giving presentations to the local schools and agencies in our community.

Phase Four
Phase four is an extension of phase three; however, their main focus will be on re-entering the community. Some may not accumulate enough money to afford a place of their own, or some may find themselves waiting for school funding to come through; and some may have a tougher time adjusting. Phase four will be an extension of time in the recovery house, however this will not be a “free ride”. 4th phasers will assist in running the Club as well as the recovery house as payment for their extension. They will be the people who will make contact with the schools and community agencies to enlighten the public regarding our primary purpose.

The Aftermath
Having completed the recovery house each graduate plays an even more important role in helping others in recovery, as well as continuing their own. There will be a number of graduates attending every 12 step meeting at the Club house to pass on to others what they have received from the recovery house. Each individual will graduate from the recovery house fully confident that with what they have learned they can use in their daily affairs successfully and still have the people of the recovery house and Club for group support. These people will have the chance to be happy, productive and fullfilled as they become a part of rather than apart from.

The Philosophy
The philosophy is the culmination of all the 12 steps and ideals in an easily remembered “poetic” form.  Each 1st phaser will be required to memorize and recite this to their fellow residents at the morning meeting after having one week to memorize it. This is their first successful accomplishment in their participation at the recovery house. They have now become a part of everything having done what everyone else has also done. This is what we recite:

“We are here because there is no refuge finally from ourselves.
Until a person confronts themselves through the eyes and hearts of others they are running.
Until they share their secrets, to suffer them, they have no safety from them.
They will be alone.
Where else but on this common ground can we find such a mirror.
Here at last, a person can appear clearly to themselves; not as the giant of their dreams nor the dwarf of their fears, but as a man/woman, a part of the whole with their share in its purpose.
On this ground we can each take root and grow, not alone anymore as in death, but alive to ourselves and to others.”

Incorporates and Directors
The positions of Directors are service positions done on volunteer basis and unsalaried. Residents who are working with agencies who will pay them for the learning experience the position provides may also hold these positions. Incorporates will receive a salary based on the amount of grants and other fundings – after the priority of the recovery house and Club are secured for at least six months in advance.  No incorporate will receive a salary from any other source of income the Ellensburg Alano Club, Inc. may accrue other than described in this paragraph.

Fund Raising
We realize that the unexpected can and does happen, so to prepare for these possibilities fundraisers will be held. Car washes, auctions, garage sales, odd jobs, speaker meetings, dances and other such activities. The new Club (when acquired) should have a coffee/sandwich bar and other features to keep it self-supporting and any excess funds would be used at the recovery house as well.

Other Staff Members
We will have on our staff (on a volunteer basis-at least at first) a qualified medical person, counselors, tutors, instructors, educators and specialists. These staff members’ input, participation and services are invaluable.

Reasons for Immediate Expulsion

1. Use of drugs or alcohol.
2. Acts or threats of violence.
3. Engaging in illegal activities.
4. Repeated vandalism.
5. Sexual harassment

We hope this has answered as many questions as possible. We welcome any suggestions you may have to improve this presentation. If you have any further questions, suggestions, contributions, or if you would like to meet with the Incorporates in person please contact us.
