Piece recorded at performace at Madrid's CAM (Centro Arte Moderno) gallery, 12 May 2006. Collaboration with artist/photographer Gloria Cadenas. Here, turntablism backgrounds are mixed with found tapes and answerphone messages and 'broadcast' into the street - the place where I initially found all this material.

This piece looks especially at the use of breathy non-verbal vocal sounds, normally
used as backing vocals in a song and considered by the arranger as ornamental and
'aesthetic'. Here they are removed from their 'decorative' function in the arrangement
and distorted, firstly by being amplified and pushed to the fore in this performance;
secondly by the juxtaposition of backing vocal noises taken from various different
records, then thirdly by the crass use of repetition and 'lock groove' involved in this
performance.

Probably the first in my collection of bits of tape found in the street and later respooled and played back.
1/4" Open reel, 3 3/4 i.p.s two track format. Found Raby Park Road, Neston, Wirral. Content: sounds like BBC radio drama lesson. Found in various sections wrapped in bushes and undergrowth outside Neston Comprehensive school. Highly abstract content now even more so as assembled as random spliced sections!
