" ...A thought comes when "it" wishes, and not when "I" wish."
---Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond good and evil: On the prejudices of Philosphers , ·#17
No explanation has ever been given as to how, or why, thoughts occur to us. Or why, when confronted with an obstacle, problem or puzzle, the elusive solution appears at a time purely of its own choosing. Whatever the reason, when or if it happens, we become in some way 'enlightened'. Mystery evaporates, the jigsaw fits together. Some source within us, what Nietzsche referred to as an 'inner drive', is responsible for spewing forth these 'revelations'. We have a 'flash of inspiration', a 'moment of clarity', a 'brainwave', a 'realization', or sometimes it just 'dawns on us'. This is the inspiration behind Enlightenment.
