Browning
Because some cuts of meats cook so rapidly, there may not be enough time for proper browning. If the meat does not brown enough for your taste there are several ways to produce a browner meat.
1. Brown converntionally on top of the range or in the oven and finish cooking in the
microwave oven.
2. Coat the meat with the dry contents of a package of gravy mix or onion soup mix.
3. Brush gravy brwoining sauce or soy sauce on the meat.
Turn
To cook meat patties, chops and roasts turn the meat over part of the way through
the cooking process. This will help the food cook more evenly.
Arrange
When cooking several items, such as potatoes, leave at leat an inch of space
between them so the microwaves can reach them from all sides.
Cover
There are different kinds of covers. Glass lids and plastic wrap hold in steam and heat and help food cook faster. Be careful to open lids or vent plastic wrap away from
you to avoid steam burns.
Standing Time
Food continues to cook as the temperature equalizes after the food is removed from the microwave oven. Slightly undercook and allow time for food to finish cooking.
Allow from two minutes for smaller foods to fifteen minutes for larger foods, such as meats roasts and turkeys.
