YOUTH CAMP
Revised: August
1, 2007
This
program was established in 1993 to acquaint boys and girls, aged 9-12, with
gardening activities and environmental concerns. The children were related to garden club
members (child, grandchild, niece or nephew) or were participating in one of
our young gardeners programs. The camp
was a four day program which emphasized projects related to our environment,
conservation and gardening. The site
was a college campus which had the necessary facilities available. Funding came from membership donations and
camper tuition fees.
We continue our Federation
commitment to the youth –-our future-- but suspend the operation of the camp as
we evaluate the overall concerns for camp site, insurance issues and staffing
of the program. We will be continuing
the support of youth education in horticulture, conservation and the environment
in other ways.
