The Birth of a Palm Tree
My first tutorial!!!!!
Welcome to my studio, lol well I wish I had studio.  This is a wooden tv tray that is perfect workspace for playing with clay.  You can see my pasta machine, cutters, liquid sculpey, blades, and other various tools.
This palm tree was a request from my daughter, she needed matching earings for her palm tree summer outfit.  SHE drew out pic (just like this) and I thought "I CAN DO THAT!!!
Materials needed:

*Pasta Machine (not necessary, but easier.  Hand roller could also work.)
*Clay blade  (a long blade, or can also use tip of a blade when cutting sheets for the skinner blend)
*Xacto knife/blade
*Square cutter (not required, or use a square of paper as a general guide)
*Roller (acrylic rod, smooth brayer, smooth drinking glass or jar)
*Very small amount of Liquid sculpey (liquid clay)
*Figure eight shaped wire (I bend with 20 g craft wire and round needle nose plyers.  I have found some already bent in figure 8 metal pieces in the findings section of bead store)
*Green, Yellow, and Brown clay (very little)  You can use your desired brand, Sculpey III will not be strong enough for this thin use.  I used Kato for mine.
*Ruler

Condition your clay until it is smooth and does not crack or flake when a snake of it is folded over....knead, roll and twist with hands, or use a pasta machine (opening thickness doesn't matter, but don't trap air by putting folded sheets in with the fold at the top)  My machine is an Amaco, 7 being the thickest setting, 1 being the thinest.

NOTICE:  Hometown.aol is quirky sometimes, if a pic or type is missing, page back and up again, it will eventually show.
