OUR PROGRAMS
The Crisis Nursery in the only one of its kind in Weber and Morgan counties.

The In-Home Parenting instruction programs are the longest running of their kind in the State of Utah.

Parenting Classes and Workshops for parents of children of all ages are available.

The first agency in northern Utah to provide parenting classes in the Spanish language.

The Referral Line guides callers in need to resources they can turn to, both local and national.

CRISIS NURSERY

Children do best in familiar surroundings under the guidance of their own parents and no one is more important to a child than their parent, but there are times when having alternative care is a better option for both parents and children. When parents have no one to turn to for child care during stress, emergencies or self-help appointments, they can bring their children to the Crisis Nursery. We are committed to providing a safe, healthy, nurturing atmosphere for all children in our care. We know that parenting can be challenging - if parents experience ongoing stress or repeated family emergencies we will encourage them to connect with resources to help them stabilize their home environment over the long term.

We do not provide services for ongoing child care needs such as work or school but in such situations we may be able to refer to child care providers.

The Crisis Nursery is licensed to take children aged one month through 11 years and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

PARENTING CLASSES

Parenting classes are offered for parents with children from birth through adolescence. Parenting and nurturing skills, age-appropriate expectations, anger and stress management, positive communication styles and esteem building are just a few of the topics covered. Parents may telephone the Center to register, and will meet with a Center staff member for a brief orientation prior to starting classes. Classes are held in the evening.

Basic Survival Skills for Parents 0-12 for parents with children birth through 12 years .  These are two-hour sessions that meet once a week. Classes are ongoing so parents can start at any time and must attend 12 sessions to complete the class curriculum.

Basic Survival Skills for Spanish-speaking Parents:  For parents with children ages birth through five, this is a two hour class that meets once a week for eight weeks and is held on an as-needed basis.

IN-HOME PARENTING PROGRAMS

Our in-home programs are designed for parents who would benefit from instruction more intensive than provided in Parenting Classes. A staff member is assigned to work one-on-one with the entire family in their home, teaching them the skills they need to make long-term changes and become self-sufficient. The staff member serves as a teacher, role model, advocate and guide to resources. The programs promote the philisophy of caring for self, others and the environment. Programs can last from 14 weeks to a year.

Bright Beginning:  This program focuses specifically on working with families with children birth through five years. This is an intensive program designed to teach parents the basic skills which enable them to strengthen the parent/child bond, build a strong foundation for the family, and reduce the likelihood that the family will become involved in the child protective system.

Spanish Language Bright Beginnings:  This program specifically targets Spanish-speaking families in the community. We are in our tenth year of this program and have seen the positive impact of reaching out to families who would otherwise be isolated due to a language barrier.

Therapeutic Outreach Program (TOR):  This program supplements services to our Bright Beginnings clients who can not obtain therapeutic services by other means, by providing short term and/or brief therapy. Our Therapeutic Outreach Workers are able to provide services to the entire family and/or individual members.
