Golden Hills – This is an established camp. Officially described as “Golden Hills Trail Rides and Resort” they are clearly for the horse folks. This camp is located just southeast of Raymondville, MO at N37o 19.390-W90o 48.170. These folks are geared up for large organized rides with around 1000 stalls and hundreds of campsites served by water and electric. The sites are a little small for us. We really need about 22 x 60 foot sites so we can tie our horses and get the trailer doors open with the truck disconnected. The stalls are all covered and water is located nearby. The gates are a little marginal. They have a WEB site at www.goldenhills.com. The dinning has be rather limited but you’ll live. They also have gas and diesel fuel available at competitive prices. There are about 200 miles of trails to explore on your own or with an organized ride. Very good trail maps are provided and they actually mark most of the trails. A rather unique offering are their clinics that are offered free during the organized rides. Our favorite was Don West, www.havesaddlewilltravel.com, who is a real trail rider and went with us on the rides. Others who attend are Richard Shrake along with Terry and Dollene Tryon. Golden hills is adding new trails every year as they do some logging on their 5000 acres.
