Yellow River
State Forest
Yellow River Forest is a State run recreation area located a few miles northwest of Marquett, IA at N43o 10.620 – W91o 13.740. The trail for horses have been around for years but old timers tell us that they have actually been shortened as trails are converted to hiking. The camping is primitive. The spaces are nice sized for us. The State stocks the creek beside camp with fish several times a year. For a creek that is maybe 15 feet wide it sure gets a lot of fishing.
The trails are groomed and the Ranger gets real upset if you stray from them. Since they are groomed, there aren’t many challenges. There is a fire tower south of camp that everyone seems to stop at for a rest.
