My Thoughts On Genealogy
Genealogy for me has been a project for over 20 years and will always be a constant ongoing project. I'm an avid genealogy book fan who's collected several hundred books over the years and I'm constantly looking for more. Books are great sources. But one should always back it up with a record obtained from a County Courthouse - Public Library - State Archives - National Archives - Cemetery. What this means is over years you can pile up mountains of document's. I put mine by surname into 3 ring binders with index tabs for the various counties. Lot's of info is out there on the internet and it's a source, but there is also that percent that is incorrect. For instance my own personal history was out there with huge mistakes and still is. Several people had plastered my family history all over the genealogy sites. One gentleman went so far as to create his own dates & places of birth for me and my children. One should always be respectfull of living family members and their personal information. And always thank those who share with you. This is was why I decided to put my Hicks heritage online. Genealogy is just that a family history and it's ours and we should be proud to share it with others.
