8-25-97 Chagrin Falls v. Brush High School 1:2

Scoring: Headball goal by Kerlek off cross from Sherwin
Summary: The team played an excellent short passing game
the first 20 minutes, creating numerous scoring opportunities and
completely outplaying Brush during that time. Brush controlled
the game the remaining 60 minutes of the game. Chagrin scored a
highlight film goal when Sherwin after dribbling the ball down
the left side crossed it to Kerlek who headed it into the goal.
Brush scored both goals in the second half on counter
attacks.Brush's junior varsity team defeated Chagrin 3:2.
8-27-97 Chagrin Falls v. Chardon 7:0 (4:0)
Scoring: Goals: Buda (2), Kerlek, Sherwin, Exline,
Redding, Barrie Assists: Kerlek, Sherwin, Thalman, Preyss
Summary: All nineteen players played. Redding scored in
the first minute of the game. Sherwin put a long throw-in on
Kerlek's head who flicked the ball to Redding on the goal line.
Chagrin won the junior varsity game 5:0. Congratulations to
Henry, Podor, and Kerlek for making the Twinsburg Cup Tournament
Team.
8-28-97 Chagrin Falls v. Rocky River 1:3 (0:2)
Scoring: Goal: Sherwin Assist: Exline
Summary: The Tigers dominated most of the game, especially
in the 2nd Half, however River scored three goals before Chagrin
finally got on the score board in the 2nd Half. River scored the
first two goals on counter attacks They scored the third goal on
an indirect free kick from about 20 yds out. Sherwin scored for
Chagrin off a long free kick by Exline. The junior varsity team
tied River 1:1.
9-4-97 Chagrin Falls v. University School 0:3 (0:1)
Summary: University School scored once in the first half
and twice in the second half to defeat the Tigers 3:0. The Tigers
best chance came when Buda dribbled through the University
defense and from about eight yards out kicked the ball directly
to the University School keeper. Buda and Sherwin received yellow
cards for overly rough play. Chagrin's best player was marking
back, Ryan Eshelman. The University School junior varsity team
defeated Chagrin JV team 4:1.
9-6-97 Chagrin Falls v. Cleveland Heights 2:5 (2:2)
Scoring: Goals: Sherwin, Buda Assists:
Buda/Locurto, Sherwin
Summary: Chagrin took a 2-0 lead during the first 20
minutes of the game. The goals came off long throw-ins by
Locurto. The game was 2:2 at the half. Henry played keeper for
the first 60 minutes of the game, Striewing the last 20 minutes.
The junior varsity team lost 2-1 to Cleveland Heights. Heights
scored both goal on penalty kicks.
9-9-97 Chagrin Falls v. Perry 6:0 (3:0)
Scoring: Goals:Buda (2), Barrie, Henry, Kerlek, Redding Assists:
Henry, Redding, Frey, Preyss
Summary: Good short passing game with plenty of goals. It
was Striewing's first start in goal. Chagrin is 1-0 in the CVC!
9-12-97 Chagrin Falls v. West Geauga 3:1 (1:1)
Scoring: Goals: Henry (2), Redding (1) Assists:
Buda, Sherwin (2), Henry
Summary: It was a hard fought battle. Chagrin scored first
when Buda dribbled down the right side and found Henry free about
eight yards directly infront of the goal. West G scored a counter
attack goal to tie the score. The Tigers and Henry scored again 2
min into the second half after a corner kick from Sherwin. The
third goal came with about 10 min left in the game again off a
corner from Sherwin to Henry who headed the ball to Redding who
kicked it in. West G's JV's beat Chagrin 1:0.
9-16-97 Chagrin Falls v. Wickliffe 1:1 (1:1)
Scoring: Goal: Henry (UA)
Summary: Chagrin clearly outplayed a fired-up Wickliffe
team, but was not able to put the ball into the net. The result
was a 1:1 tie. This was the first game in 35 games against
Wickliffe, that a Chagrin Falls team did not win! Congratulations
to Wickliffe for a game well played! The JV game ended in a 0-0
tie.
9-18-97 Chagrin Falls v. Mentor 1:0 (0:0)
Scoring: Goal: Redding Assist: Locurto
Summary: Congratulations to the Tigers! It was their best
game this season and all players played well, a real team effort.
There was excellent passing, and there were many scoring
opportunities for both teams. Chagrin's lone goal was scored 20
minutes into the second half when Locurto's flip throw-in was
headed (backed?) into the goal by Redding. The Mentor JV's
defeated Chagrin's JV's 4:0.
9-20-97 Chagrin Falls v. Kenston 1:1 (0:1)
Scoring: Goal: Buda Assist: Kerlek
Summary: Another excellent game by the Tigers, this time
against a very quick and talented Kenston team! Kenston's scored
in the 10th minute of the game, Chagrin in the last 10 minutes.
Kenston controlled the first half of the game, Chagrin the
greater part of the second half. Chagrin's goal was scored by
Buda after freshman Kerlek had dribbled the ball past two
defenders into the box and his shot was only partially cleared by
the Kenston keeper. The Kenston JV's defeated Chagrin's JV's 2:1.
9/23/97 Chagrin Falls v. Aurora 3:2 (1:0)
Scoring: Goals: Hanculak, Redding, Henry Assists:
Sherwin (2)
Summary: A hard fought CVC contest! Chagrin led 1:0 at the
half. Aurora tied the game when a long free kick bounced
uncontested in the box. Chagrin got the 2:1 a minute later when
Redding used his size and strength to dribble past four Aurora
defenders and fired his shot from about 20 yard into the left
cross, an awsome goal! Aurora tied the game when Striewing was
not able to hold onto an indirect free kick shot from about 15
yards. The Tigers third goal came off a corner from Sherwin to
Henry who powered and ran the ball into the goal with about 50
seconds remaining in the game. The Tigers are 4-0-2 with
Striewing in goal! Chagrin won the Junior Varsity game 2:0.
9-25-97 Chagrin Falls v. Lincoln West -- No Contest!
Note: Lincoln West was not able to field a team and the
game was cancelled!
9-30-97 Chagrin Falls v. Kirtland 7:0 (6:0)
Scoring: Goals: Thalman, Buda, Exline, Kerlek, Barry,
Frey, Reinart Assists: Henry, Preyss, Kerlek
Summary: The starters played the first 10 minutes of the
game, the subs the remaining 70 minutes of the game!
10-2-97 Chagrin Falls v. Walsh Jesuit 1:2 (0:0)
Scoring: Goal: Redding Assist: Locurto
Summary: A game of missed opportunities, in which Chagrin
played at least well enough to earn a tie! Chagrin's goal was
scored on a head ball by Redding off a flip throw-in by
Locurto.The Walsh JV team defeated the Tiger JV's 4:0.
10-7-97 Chagrin Falls v. Hawken 1:5 (1:1}
Scoring: Goal: Exline (PK)
Summary: Chagrin managed to play excellent defense for 60
minutes. After Hawken scored the second goal in about the 60th
minute the game was over. The Tigers just tried to hang in there
as Hawken showed why it has the #1 rated Division II team in the
State. Hawken's fourth and fifth goal came in the last 50 seconds
of the game. The Junior Varsity Tigers beat Hawken 1:0!
10-9-97 Chagrin Falls v. Beachwood 5:0 (4:0)
Scoring: Goals: Locurto, Buda, Podor, Kerlek, Reinart Assists:
Henry, Hanculak
Summary: Last game of the regular season and everyone got
to play. Sherwin substituted in goal for the injured Striewing
and received the shut-out.
10-16-97 Chagrin Falls v. Cleveland Central Catholic 7:0

Scoring: Goals: Sherwin, Buda (2), Kerlek, Locurto,
Exline, Eshelman Assists: Henry, Redding, Kerlek
Summary: The Tigers are Sectional Champs! Next game will
be against the winner between Twinsburg and Independence, both
teams with good records. Keep working Tigers! (Note:Twinsburg
defeated Independence 2:0 and thus will be Chagrin's next
opponent!)
10-21-97 Chagrin Falls v. Twinsburg 1:0 (OT)
Scoring: Goal: Henry Assist: Redding
Summary: Congratulations to both teams for a game well
played! The CFHS Tigers are in the District Finals! An exciting
and hard-fought game in which both defenses excelled! The game
was 0:0 at the end of regulation time. Chagrin scored 5 minutes
into the first 10-minute OT period when Redding attacking from
his stopper position dribbled the ball down the left side of the
field all the way to the end line and then crossed the ball
across the six to Henry who scored. Chagrin will play CVCA on
Saturday. CVCA reached the district final by defeating Aurora
5:1!
Chagrin Falls v. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 0:1

Summary: An excellent game and a hard-fought battle!
CVCA's score came five minutes into the first OT period on a
counterattack from a Chagrin corner. Both teams had ample chances
to score during regulation time. Congratulations to both teams
for a game well played. Good luck to CVCA as it prepares for the
regionals!
