From the Pennsylvania Game Commission:
A Reminder to Wear Fluorescent Orange
For the past three years, Pennsylvania Game Commission has required
non-hunters to wear Safety Orange when visiting State Game Lands.
Hunters know the rules, because they're spelled out on pages 78-79
of the of the 2005-06 Pennsylvania Digest of Hunting and Trapping
Regulations. or those who haven't read that lately, here it is:
From Nov. 15 to Dec. 15 (except for Sundays), those using State Game
Lands who are not engaged in hunting, trapping or fishing must wear a
minimum of 250 square inches of fluorescent orange on head, chest or
back combined, visible 360 degrees, or, in lieu thereof, a hat of the
same color.
Scott Klinger, Game Commission Bureau of Land Management director
explained that "between Nov. 15 and Dec. 15, we hold seasons that
include the highest participation rates of hunters, all of whom are
required to wear orange. So, if others are out there using State Game Lands from Monday through Saturday during this same time period,
it only makes sense to require them to wear orange as well.
While the regulation only applies to State Game Lands, it makes sense
for everyone to also wear Blaze Orange while hiking or wildlife-watching on State Forest and State Park lands if hunting is allowed there. In fact it makes abundant sense to always wear blaze orange when there is ANY hunting going on.
There are 3.4 million Hikers and Wildlife-Watchers in Pennsylvania.
We can't afford to lose any of you."
Note that many State Parks DO allow hunting on part of their property.
