Our Herdsires

Proverbial Pygmies Joseph is our most outstanding herdsire. I have watched him grow since a baby, when my goat buddy Ginger Jones and Heinz Lashkin owned him.  I purchased him from Ginger and Heinz when Ginger needed to cut back her herd.  I have to admit this fellow was a bit of an ugly duckling, even Ginger thought Heinz was a bit off when he started going into his yearling gangly gookey stage. However you can see how he has matured.

Joey produces excellent kids, and currently have 2 of his sons CanterBerrys Maximum Overdrive (Maxi) and his brother CanterBerrys Rembrandt (Remi).  Joey also carries the Red Gene, and his son Rembrandt was born a mahogany red with carmel markings. However , Remi is now all black, except for faint deep red brown around his eyes. Remi was bred to Miracle and together they produced a medium to dark brown carmel doeling

Joey is quite athletic, very strong, and well muscled. He brings to his kids a strong rear angulation, great spring of rib, width, and top line. And a wonderful handsome Pygmy type head. I just cannot say enough about this Buck! Born 10/10/1998 he is pictured here at almost 5 years old. Pic. Taken 8/26/03

This amazing fellow is 1X Jr. Champion CanterBerrys Ruff and Rowdy. His sire is Desert Suns Budweiser, and his Dam is Wee-B Pygmys Little Dot. He is well muscled, has a straight top line, (although with all his hair he looks as though he dips in the chine, but you run your hand down the spine you will be pleasantly surprised!), This fellow is very wide throughout, and stands on lots of bone! We have several of his kids on the ground that are of breeding age, that we have bred to Joey. I am on pins and needles waiting to see how well the 2 cross with each other.
Rowdy was born 1/12/2000 and is pictured here at 3-1/2 years old

And here are the Sons of Joey. Their dob is 1/18/2002. Pictured here as yearlings on 8/26/2003. They will only continue to muscle up and blossom. Their Dam is CanterBerrys Imagine That ( her sire is Desert Suns Ca'Nook) Their only drawback pictured here is the horns. I do not know what I burnt on them, but I completely missed the horn on Maxi's left side, both boys have scurs as you can see. Oh well another vet bill what can I say  :)

Canterberrys Maximum Overdrive is the grey agouti buck. Rembrandt is the black buck. Remi is a bit narrower between the eyes than Maxi, however Remi is cobbier than Maxi in that he does not have the length of body that Max has. But the differences are minor, as they are both powerfully built!

At Birth Rembrandt was a deep Mahogany Red Carmel. As he grew in the weeks that followed, the black markings spread to cover Remi by the time he was 3 months old. The only Remnant of his original color is around his eyes, like a splash of eyeliner. He is registered as a black agouti buck as a result. However I am hoping that careful breeding will pin point and bring out that Mahogany Red Carmel in his kids. So far I have not kit on the right combination!
