Golden Gate Akita Club

Here's the GGAC Introduction. If no one nominates anyone for Board positions by November 15th (this Sunday), and I doubt if anyone will, the Board for 1988 will be as listed below:

THE GOLDEN GATE AKITA CLUB
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AN INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Golden Gate Akita Club (GGAC) was established in 1970 and is a member of the Akita Club of America, Inc. As of the Spring of 1995, GGAC received the American Kennel Club’s (AKC) approval for the holding of its First Independent Akita Specialty Show, Sweepstakes Competition and Obedience Trial on March 9, 1996. The goals of the Club and its membership are to: Encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Akitas; do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of Akitas by providing educational information about the breed to its members and the general public; and encourage good sportsmanship at dog shows.

Our Club year starts on January 1st through December 31st with annual dues of $20.00/ Family and $15.00/Regular (includes a subscription to The Herald, our Official Club Newsletter). We host educational and fun activities throughout the year, including benching at the Cow Palace All Breed Dog Show, exhibiting at the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival and marching in their parade, holding a Summer picnic in the park, an Akita Puppy Fun Match, participate in local pet fairs, inviting guest speakers, annual Christmas Holiday party, a licensed AKC point show and more.

The Akita originates from Akita prefecture in Northern Honshu, Japan. The breed is over 300 years old. Renowned in its unmatched loyalty and heralded in many folk tales, in 1931 the Akita was designated a National Monument by the Japanese Ministry of Education. They are known for their intense guarding ability, beauty and strength and were officially recognized by the AKC as a Working Breed in April of 1973. Subsequently, registration of Japanese imports was closed in February 1974 and then reopened in 1993.

It is no wonder our magnificent breed has gained such popularity in the United States. GGAC members and their Akitas meet the public daily and gladly answer the many questions asked by admirers. For more information on the Golden Gate Akita Club, the Akita breed, member breeders, or joining the Club, please feel free to contact one of our officers.
