The Other Mountain
Remnant
Bemidji, Minnesota
"Performing Random Acts of Music"

Once upon a time there was a bluegrass/Gospel group called The Other Mountain Band. They played festivals in Colorado and Wyoming -- including the Happy Jack Bluegrass Festival, Gospelgrass, The Masonville Gospel Festival and Freedom Has a Birthday in Laramie. They also performed in Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico and Wyoming. Jean De Smidt played mandolin and guitar, Jim De Smidt performed on bass and guitar, Dan Galbreath excelled on fiddle and viola and Kyle Groose covered banjo, guitar and bass! (Previously, Dave Fuller was with us on guitar and banjo.)
Life was good. But as life would have it, time moved on. Jean and Jim moved to Bemidji, Minnesota. Kyle and Dan are now in college with Dan involved with string quartets and symphony orchestras.

Today, we have The Other Mountain Remnant with Jean De Smidt on mandolin and Jim on guitar. Our name continues to reflect our belief that music has a message, even though it cannot be pigeon-holed into a particular category. Our goal is to provide music -- Gospel, bluegrass, Celtic and more -- that touches your life and can make you smile.
We have been singing in the Bemidji/northern Minnesota area. Our performances at Round Lake Presbyterian and First Presbyterian-Bemidji have shortened the winter for us. There will be addtional forays this spring and summer -- watch this site for details (coming play date is August 27th, 12 noon at First Presbyterian-Bemidji). Hope to see you then.
