General conditiong is coming for all winter athletes - November 10th Kenwood will begin conditioning for all winter athletes (including wrestling, baseball, and track and field)
2007-2008 Season Recap

Indoor Season
  *  Girls are the 2008 Indoor City Champs!  The repeat is complete!
  *  Boys Smoke!!!  Boys also win the Indoor City Meet!!!
  *  Kenwood is the only school in recent history to win both the girls and boys divisions of the indoor city meet!!!

Outdoor Season
  *  Bronco Invitational
          + Girls 4x100 relay ran 50.0 in horrid conditions
          + Charles PR's in the 200m dash  
  *  Mather Invitational
          + Meet Records Fall...Kawanna jumps 17' 5 1/2" & 38' 2 1/2" (New School Record), Imari Mason runs 16.16 in 100mH
          + Sharee Hassan & Kora Johnson both near Freshman school record in Triple Jump
          + Cedric & Maris PR in the open 400 & 800 respectively
  *  Ed Key Invite  
          + Too Cold to care!  Naw really good meet to test courage under fire
          + Excellent performances by Kawanna & Caja in the 100m dash given the weather
          + Excellent performanes by Frosh/Soph 300m Hurdlers
  *  Windy City Classic - in the most competitive relay meet of the year the broncos held strong  
          + Big Ups to Imari Mason for her PR in the long jump - with a performance of 17'4 3/4"
            over Ronecia Nash...arguably the best sprinter in the state  
          + Kawanna Brooks brings the house down in the triple jump.  In up & down weather conditions (down by the time
            the triple jump came around)...Kawanna wins the TJ with a jump 37'9" in a showdown between Brittney Brimmage.
           + Andrew Johnson (So.!) rocks the shot & discuss amonsgt seasoned veterans.  
 * Urbana / Champaign Invitationals
          + Girls win the 4x100
          + Kawanna & Imari go 1, 2 in the long jump.  Kawanna jumps 37'9" in the TJ on the last jump in the dark to win
          + Boys place 5th in the 4x800 before the meet was called for T-Storms
 * 2008 City Championships  
          + IT'S OFFICIAL...KENWOOD GIRLS ARE THE BEST SPRINTERS IN CHICAGO!!!  (Besides Idia from Lane)
          + Caja brings down the house in the 100m & 200m (placing 2nd & 3rd respectively)
          + Kawanna wins the LJ in 17'7.5" & the TJ in 36'3" (very cold & wet at that point in the meet)
          + 4x100 defends their city title (holds off Morgan Park...again)
          + Boys 4x800 places 2nd with some gusty running
          + Cedric & Marris run tough in cold weather in the 400m & 800m respectively
2008 IHSA Girls State Sectional @ Thornwood
          + Girls rock the house!!!!
          + Imari jumps 18'4" in the LJ & runs 46.7 in 300mH ( new school records!!!!)
          + Kawanna dominates the TJ & 200m dash...blowing away the competition
          + Sharee & Kora PR in LJ and TJ respectively
          + 4x1 and 4x2 put on a clinic
          + Frosh-Soph 4x4 PR & run 4:28....excellent job ladies!!!!  
2008 IHSA State Finals @ Eastern Illinois University
          + Imari jumps 17'11" and places 9th on he final day of competition (All State Jumper)
          + 4x100 relay runs 48.72 (PR & new school record)....and qualify for Nike Nationals in the process - great job by all
          + Kawanna falls short in the triple jump - don't despair
          + Kora  Johnson runs a 26.7 split on the 4x200...great job Freshman :)
          + Kawanna Brooks places 2nd overall and sets the meet record in the javelin.  Great performances all around...sets school record in the 100m hurdles & pops a great 18 foot jump.  Kawanna also qualified for Junior Nationals to be held June 21-22 at the Ohio State University.
          + Imari Mason PR's in the Hep.  Equals the school record in the HJ with a fantastic jump of 5'3".  PR's in HJ and 200m dash.

2008 Summer Season
National JO Results
  *  Kawanna Brooks places 3rd in the nation in the Heptathlon (4301 points)
  *  Boys 4x800 places 9th in the nation

Regional JO Results
  *  Girls 4x400 qualifies for National Junior Olympics...places 3rd overall
  *  Caja Calhoun places 3rd in the Regional JO Heptatlon
  *  Kora Johnson qualifies for the National Junior Olympics...places 3rd overall
  *  Sharee Hassan places 4th in the Heptathlon and 400m hurdles (tripped over 7th hurdle)



Coach Simon steps down as Head Coach!  No...no...say it 'aint so. Yes Coach Simon has decided to move Coach Wallace up as Head Coach while he focuses on earning a PhD in education.  Coach Simon will still remain with the team and be visible...just not on a daily basis.  So all of you that are wondering if Kenwood sprinters will still represent..."you better believe it!"
Please support the 2008-2009 season as we make a campaign to:
1.  Repeat as Girls Indoor City Champs
2.  Repeat as Boys Conference Champions
3.  Reapeat as Girls Conference Champions
4.  Get more athletes to qualify for State Finals (boys & girls)
6.  "Compete on Saturday" - the 2nd day of the State Finals - this year we will seek to qualify in at least three events
