Freemasonry
Freemasonry is the oldest and largest Fraternity in the world. It is a Fraternity, not a religion, and it is not a secret society. All lodges are openly marked and well known in the communities where they are situated. Officers and members strive to achieve moral improvement, family values, civic betterment, freedom of thought, and tolerance. Freemasons all over the world are volunteers and the Fraternity contributes over two million dollars a day in North America alone. This money goes toward medical research, hospitals, homes for the elderly, scholarships, and many other charitable causes.

A main purpose of the Fraternity is to help build a better world by teaching and promoting the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God. Tenets of Freemasonry include friendship, morality, brotherhood, patriotism, tolerance, relief of the distressed, the Golden Rule and charity toward all. Freemasonry teaches its officers and members to be good and contributing citizens and to obey the laws of the land.

Membership rolls include the names of Kings, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Statesmen, Generals, Admirals, Supreme Court Chief Justices, CEO'S, opera stars, movie stars, and, more than likely, some of your neighbors and friends. Yet, everyday someone asks: What is Freemasonry? Who are the Masons? What do they do, anyway? Should I become a Mason? How can I become a member of a Masonic Lodge? Have you wondered what Freemasonry is and what it's all about? Have you been asking these questions, or others like them? Stay with us to find answers to these and many other questions about Freemasonry.

Texas Freemasonry
Freemasonry is known to have been in Texas as early as 1806-1807, when Major Zebulon M. Pike, a Master Mason of the York Rite, came across its border and settled in the new territory, which was part of Mexico. Freemasonry was already established among the educated classes of Mexican society, having been introduced by the aristocracy. And no Texan should ever forget the names of these Great Men: Austin, Houston, Fannin, Bowie, Sterne, Hall, Travis, Crockett, Kerr, McFarland, Rusk, and deZavala, all Masons. Many lodges, schools, towns, and cities from Austin to Zavavala, bear their names. The rest is history and well documented. It's not repeated here, but several links are provided, starting with The Grand Lodge of Texas AF&AM where this history is easily found, along with other links to Freemasonry sites on the Internet. Today, approximately 132,000 Texans are Masons.

The Grand Lodge of Texas is located in Waco, the Heart of Central Texas. It was chartered in 1838, making it the oldest chartered institution in Texas.
