Come to Philly and join the festivities of German American Day.  A 10K and 5K volksmarch will take you through the heart of the historic district.  Return to the German Society for additional activities including a "wurstfest".   Additional information pending

Sponsor:  Liberty Bell Wanderers Volksmarch Club (AVA 238), a non-profit organization promoting fitness through non-competative family sports, and the  German-American Heritage Foundation of the USA..
Sanction: This Event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport Assoc. (AVA), a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV).

Starting Time and Date:   Saturday October 6, 2007.   Start any time between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm and finish by 5:00 pm. Walk (or run) at your own pace, stop to sightsee or shop (note: you may want to schedule your walk so that you can take in some of the other German-American Festivities, such as the “Bier and Wurstfest” from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.)
Trail Description:  The trail will take you through the most historic areas of Philadelphia, passing Independence Hall, Franklin Court, Elfreths Alley, the Constitution Center, the Liberty Bell, the Korean and Viet Nam War Memorials, City Hall and other points of interest.

Rest Rooms and Parking:  Rest room facilities and water will be available at start point and along the trail.  Limited free parking is available.  Parking lots (fee) are available in proximity to the Start Point.
Weather:  This event will be held regardless of weather condition
 
Award:  Individuals pre-registering and making a $ 20.00 donation to the German-American National Heritage Center will receive a German-American Day tee shirt.
Registration and Fees: This event counts toward acquisition of IVV Achievement Awards, the fee is $3.00 for IVV credit. The fee for non-credit walkers is $2.00. There are no refunds.  All participants must sign a liability waiver form, complete a Start Card and return the Start Card at the finish of the walk.  Cards remain property of Liberty Bell Wanderers.
National Heritage Center donation
Walkers are encouraged to make a donation to benefit the first national German-American Heritage Center of the USA in Washington DC. For a $20.00 donation walkers will receive a T-shirt.  The Heritage Center  will house permanent and temporary displays highlighting the history and accomplishments of Americans of German-speaking ancestry, an interactive digital library, space for meetings, conferences and events and will serve as a resource for all German-American organizations to preserve and promote their rich heritage.

Refreshments: Water and hard candy will be available at the Start Point.  Additional food and refreshments will be available as part of the German-American Day festivities.

Directions
 From 76: Take I-676 East to the 8th Street exit. Go straight one block and turn left on 7th St. Turn right onto Spring Garden St. Almost immediately to your left is a break in the median to allow you to turn into the Society's driveway and parking lot.
From I-95 North: Take Callowhill Street exit. Turn right on Callowhill St. and turn right on 5th St. Turn Left onto Spring Garden St.  The Society's driveway and parking lot is on the Right near 7th St..
From I-95 South: Take Callowhill Street exit. Turn Right on 5th St. Turn Left onto Spring Garden St.  The Society's driveway and parking lot is on the Right near 7th St.
From NJ Benjamin Franklin Bridge: Cross bridge. Go to first light. Turn right on Franklin Street (7th St.). Turn right onto Spring Garden St. Almost immediately to your left is a break in the median to allow you to turn into the Society's driveway and parking lot.
Parking
The German Society has a parking lot, adjacent to the building, with an entrance in the middle of the block between 6th and 7th Streets on Spring Garden (across from the break in the median). Additional parking lots (fee) are located nearby.
