Our special little girl, Sophie, is a beautiful, little child with the face of an angel. Unfortunately, she is disconnected with the world we all live in. She cannot speak and is unaware of the ever-present dangers that abound in the environment we all share. You see, Sophie is severely autistic. She lives in her own world and has no concept of danger. An oncoming vehicle, an open window, heights, water, fire...She sees none of these the threats that they truly are. Absolute human supervision of her every action is hardly practical if not impossible.

To help families with severely autistic children, a non-profit organization called 4 Paws for Ability provides an innovative service. They train dogs to become protectors and life companions for people with disabilities, including little girls with autism. Their remarkable program requires these rescues dogs from animal shelters to go through 12 months of extensive training so they can safeguard their future human companions. The process is expensive, costing $9,800. Their unique program, however, enables families in need to raise the required training costs through non-profit activities.
