Lorge very much against Death Penalty

"The Death Penalty is the worst form of Government abuse there is"

Madison, WI - US Senate Candidate Bill Lorge is making the death penalty a part of

his US Senate campaign. Lorge announced today that if elected, he will introduce Federal

Legislation to prohibit the Death Penalty anywhere in the United States.

"Government should not be in the business of killing it's Citizens, especially when

government usually screws up most everything it does. Government is always the least

effective way to get things done. I mean, here we are as a Country, where our government

has a terrible track record in performing most of it's responsibilities, and we are going to

let them handle executions? No way! We all know innocent people are being put to

death. I applaud the Illinois Governor for his wisdom and courage in suspending

executions in his State. I am also very proud of Gov. Jesse Ventura who I believe

supported the Death Penalty but has just announced that he is now against it. Thank

God. Right now the trend is growing in our favor for once. We have to take action now. I

have always been against the Death Penalty, always. I was never for the Death Penalty,

never. With all these revelations about faulty appeals processes, poor eye witness

accounts, and a total lack of Justice, now is the time to end this barbaric practice forever.

It is time to leave the Dark Ages and fully enter the 21st Century with a 'new and

improved' way of solving our problems. It is time to permanently prohibit the Death

Penalty Nation-Wide," said Lorge.

Lorge stated his position against the Death Penalty recently when he made a brief

appearance Friday June 23, 2000 on the popular "Sly in the Morning" Radio and Cable TV

show on Madison's WTDY Radio station 1670 AM and Madison cable channel TV W. Lorge

said, "Although Sly never needs any help on his Show, I really had to get my two cents in

that morning and support him, because this has gone on too long and it has gone way too

far. It is very serious. I am very concerned. The Government HAS killed innocent

People, it is a fact. This alone should be good enough of a reason to stop it, but some

people actually think that it is OK to periodically kill an innocent person who got caught

up in the system in order to get the guilty ones - it is appalling that people think that way.

It is Murder - plain and simple, and I can't sit quietly while our Government does this."

Lorge has stated many times before as a Guest on "Sly in the Morning", that he is

100% opposed to the Death Penalty. Friday Lorge reminded Sly of his statements on an

earlier Show that Lorge spoke out against Texas Governor Bush's decision to execute Karla

Fay Tucker. Lorge called it 'the last straw'. "When the Government starts executing

Women we have totally crossed the line. We have to turn back now before we regret it,

before it is too late, before we go further into the abyss," said Lorge. Lorge predicted that

it would be a big vote getter for George Bush's Presidential race and he was right, as almost

90% of the population in some way is in favor of a Death Penalty. "I am not afraid to

disagree with 90% of the Voters on an issue where I believe I am right, and I am not

concerned in the least bit that it may take votes from me. I am very confident that I can

still win, even though, on this issue, I disagree with most voters. I'll earn their support

back other ways, but not with this issue. This issue is more important than any one

person's election. We cannot continue to mass execute Citizens, whether guilty or

innocent, but most obviously because they may be innocent," added Lorge.

"I am always proud of the fact that our great State of Wisconsin does not have the

death penalty. As a ten year State Legislator I fought and voted against Legislation to re-

instate the Death Penalty in Wisconsin. We won back then, however, there are more and

more State Legislators now who support the Death Penalty, therefore I know the only real

solution will be a Federal Prohibition that ends Government sponsored Murder in all 50

States, and this will be one of my first Proposals if the good people of our Great State elect

me to the US Senate," said Lorge.

Lorge has made opposition to the Death Penalty a major part of his US Senate

Campaign. Lorge says he learned early on as a High School Student that the Death Penalty

was flawed, that it is not a Deterrent to crime, and it does not work. Now Lorge says, "It

has become worse. It is a faulty assembly line process that specializes in murder, and it

has to stop." Lorge concluded by saying, "the Death Penalty is the worst form of

Government abuse there is."
