Wisconsin US Senate Candidate Bill Lorge's positions on the issues:

Farming: Lorge comes from a farm background, has farmed all his youth. The Federal milk pricing system is the best example of corruption in Washington DC that is out there. This old outdated law must be repealed ASAP. Wisconsin lost 7,000 farms from 1993 - 1998 - the most in the entire Nation, and Minnesota, near Eau Claire, lost 3,000 farms. This is all because of this law. Bill Lorge will filibuster and end this corrupt policy once and for all.
Gas Prices: Cut gas taxes. Cap Federal Gas Tax at 5%. Increase use of cleaner burning fuels to increase production to lower prices. Conserve energy. Use Alternative energy source vehicles. Bill decides what issue to make as his issue of the week based on what the people are telling him, unfortunately the gas price issue has been the top concern of Wisconsin voters so overwhelmingly, that Bill has made it not only his Week 2/Issue 2, but it is also his Week 3/Issue 3. As you can see, Bill is not afraid to get in there and honestly tackle the tough issues.
Death Penalty: Against it. Governments must not have the power to take a human life, never.
Pro-Life: Against abortion. Very pro-life. Against euthanasia too. Life is so sacred, Bill Lorge will support the saving of any and all human life at all stages of life. Bill Lorge has a 100% pro-life voting record as a 10 year State Legislator. Lorge voted pro-life 100% of the time, and opposes all abortions - period. Lorge opposes Partial Birth Abortion, and supports Parental Consent. Bill Lorge has always been endorsed for elective office by the Wisconsin Right to Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin as well as many other local prolife groups.
Taxes: "Reduce them, cut them, eliminate them, oppose them, kill them. I don't like taxes". Cap Federal Income Taxes at 5% for everyone. As a State Legislator, Rep. Bill Lorge was the leading tax fighter in the Wisconsin state Capitol. Lorge himself killed many new tax proposals, successfully lowered taxes, opposed every tax increase and held up the 1995 state budget until the Governor took out his 5 cent increase in the gas tax. Bill Lorge has the best tax cutting record of any US Senate Candidate, and of most every elected official. "The Federal Government takes too much money out of our pay checks. It is time to trim down the federal government and cut our taxes in half."
Social Security: Protect it, stop scaring Seniors, improve it, strengthen the fund, increase investment return over current 2% a year - so called special rate! Allow better options for people. Provide Annual statements. Also fight to protect 401K plans, IRA's and all pensions and retirement plans in America, all should be guaranteed. Protect our social security money. Both Bush and Gore have great proposals that are very well thought out, the best parts of the two plans will be what must pass in the end.
Right to Bear Arms: Supports it 100%. NRA member. A+ Rating with NRA as 10 year State Legislator. Hunter, Sportsman, gunowner. I dont want to sound like a broken record, but we need to enforce the laws we have now. They traced the gun that was recently used by a student to shot a teacher, the gun had a long history. How can that be? Current laws are not being enforced. We need to start there before we ever tamper with the Constitution. "From my cold dead hands"
No GOP Endorsement: "Let the People Decide" It is amazing what some people will do to hang onto their power. All the more reason to "Let the People Decide" and elect Bill Lorge on September 12th over the GOP Power Machine that only wants a few people to decide the Candidate rather than the Millions of GOP voters throughout Wisconsin at the ballot box on Tuesday, September 12, 2000. Bill Lorge will fight for the People, Let's vote for him Sept. 12th. "Let the People Decide"
Internet: Protect YOUR Privacy, improve Government efficiency, increase people power/knowledge, make life better, continue with tax free Internet. Every school must be hooked up to the Internet.
Environment: Lorge has a proven record fighting for a cleaner future. Received the prestigious 1992 Legislator of the Year Award by the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, opposes Crandon Mine, eliminate Mercury emissions from polluters (95% reduction in mercury by 2010 - too many lakes in Wisconsin are way too high in mercury). Lorge for years has been one of the only Republicans to be endorsed by Environmental groups like Wisconsin Environmental Decade, Sierra Club, etc. Lorge was the only Leader calling for support of the Cleaner burning fuels, while the rest wanted a waiver - We Must Protect the Air we Breathe.
Families: Eliminate all marriage tax penalties, increase tax credits for Education IRAs, strengthen family rights laws, increase tax credits for each child. Stop making two family income earners pay higher tax rates than single people - This is another marriage penalty that must be repealed. Protect Joint retirement accounts earned by each spouse separately. Parents should raise our children, not the government. Create incentives to help families stay together - Make it cheaper, easier and more convenient to be married with children. Tax incentives to keep at least one parent at home with the children. Children raised at home by their loving parents will ensure a brighter future and will allow us to continue to invest more and more money into education rather than prisons.
Use US Military more for domestic improvement projects, Army Corpse of Engineers, faster help in disasters - Fires, Floods, famine or anything that the taxpayers can benefit from by using our Military to get things done for US.
Health/Medical care: Get Insurance companies out of the medical care business, they are the problem, they tell Doctors not to do what the Doctors need to do to help people, let the Doctors decide. As Chair of the Wisconsin Assembly Committee on Insurance, Bill Lorge has many plans to reduce medical costs so they are very affordable and improve access to everyone. Basic medical care is everyone's right.
Lorge supports the proposals put forward by Bush and Gore to improve Government efficiency.
Voting: Supports a Nation wide voter age to include 17, 18 and 19 year olds enrolled as High School Seniors who will vote right in their schools. This will start them in the good habit of voting in every election, instead of the the current situation where 18, 19 and 20 year olds don't vote and take years and years for a few of them to form the good habit of voting in higher numbers. We should be encouraging our youth to vote and be responsible and take a part in their society, rather than ignoring the problem. This proposal which could be my most famous piece of Legislation will be known as, "The Lorge Act" and it will change America for the better in a very people positive way.
China: What about it? Everything we buy says "Made in China" on it already. Even the stuffed Cow toy I won at the Dane County Breakfast on the Farm Celebrity Milking contest the week I announced for US Senate said "Made in China" on it. What more will Permanent Most Favored Nation Status do other than ease World trade at the expense of looking the other way while a Major Super Power continues to violate basic Human Rights? Everything is already "Made in China" now, maybe we should focus more of our time on "Making more things in America".
Federal Nuclear Waste Policy Act. Supports only 1 Central site not 3. Wisconsin is the 3rd proposed site. It is important that we as Wisconsin citizens work hard together as a State to support only one US site for nuclear waste storage, to keep that dangerous substance far away from our streams, rivers, lakes, Towns and air. The Desert of Nevada is a better place to store nuclear waste, not beautiful fertile Wisconsin.
Work Hazards: Ensure that all American workers are free from any health damaging effects at work, provide for 100% full compensation for all medical costs associated with any and all work related injuries, no matter how minor.
Get the Nuclear weapons away from India, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran and all other Countries. These are very dangerous weapons and must be destroyed, removed from the face of this earth. The doomsday clock must be moved way back, not forward. We have to stop this insane nuclear weapons race. End the testing and destroy them. Bill Lorge is an outspoken critic of Nuclear Weapons and their testing. Lorge even hand wrote a letter to the President of France asking him to stop France's Nuclear Testing in the Pacific. Lorge received a response that was printed in the media. Basically the French President said their testing is to stop the use of Nuclear Weapons. It is time for the people who live on this planet to ban together and take such powerful instruments of destruction away from liars.
Cuba: It's time to open relations with Cuba. Like the USSR, Cuba will soon be free and will never go back. Any time wasted right now delaying this transition period must be reduced. We accomplish little by keeping Cuba at such a far distance when they are 90 miles from our shores. It is time to open up and start Diplomatic relations now.
Conservation: Gas free vehicles. It's the future, lets move it up faster. Plan for World energy shortages much better. Conserve energy more. Reduce our reliance on Foreign Oil. Supports wind, solar and all alternative energy sources. Lorge is a known Environmental activist and will have a strong pro-environmental voting record in the US Senate.
Campaign Finance Reform: Get the big money special interest's bribery system out of Washington, DC and all our State Capitols. The Nation needs a major overhaul to give all our governments back to the people and not the few rich and powerful who hire lobbyists. The 2000 GOP and Democrat National Conventions were appalling the way they sold out to the big money. The people are demanding change, and one Federal Act will clean up the system for good at all State, local and federal government levels. No more buying elections. Reforms like those Wisconsin US Senator "Fighting" Bob Lafollette stood for are needed again and now.
Children: Video game violence is destroying our youth and we must outlaw such destruction. TV Violence is also intolerable. We must fight to protect our children from these bad influences. Without stepping on Freedom of speech, the US Senate must take a lead in stopping the mutilation of the minds of our youth by those who create this violence.
Income Tax Forms: Get rid of em. No more April 15th tax day. Change the system so people do not have to fill out the forms anymore at all. Totally end income tax filing. With the high technology out there, the withholding should be easier, more fair and a lot cheaper for the average working family in America, and it should be the most secure way to go. Right now Lorge is the only Leader calling for this needed change. Instead of getting a blank tax form in the mail, the feds have the technology to send you an annual report of your income and tax withholding, not to exceed 5% of total income for everyone - Period. That annual report and the tax you paid each pay check via withholding like today, will be so easy and so cheap, that everyone will accept the report and will be done with their taxes by doing one thing after they open the tax report they will get in the mail and after reviewing it with a happy smile, they will simply just file the report away as done. So a family earning $50,000.00 a year would only pay $2,500 in taxes instead of the various ranges anywhere from nothing to the current rate of $11,207.00. People won't even need to, or want to, still fill out tons of forms to get a little bit more back, even if they think they will gain by deducting and itemizing, because their time will be worth more than what they would save based on an annual Income Tax Cap of 5%. For those who love forms, we could leave that part in for them, etc., fine, but most people will see the new system is better and will never fill out tax return forms again. April 15th, TAX DAY, would be a non-event from this day forward if the Lorge Tax Act is passed. Simplify all federal forms, especially tax forms, especially individual income tax forms must be very brief and simple. Also, it is not productive for the Government to make our employers and businesses fill out 30 pages of forms to pay $3.00 in taxes. This must end. With the high tech computer world now so efficient, the Government must come up with a better plan, the one we have now a 2 year old could improve on.
Seniors: Expand health care coverages to include Seniors. Employees with family plans should be able to include parents and certain siblings in their work sponsored family health care plans. Group plans have enormous leeway, we have to honor our parents like other cultures do and take care of them better.
Privacy: Stop using Social Security numbers for identification. The Federal Government forces the states to use and collect SS #s for identification beyond what the social security number was intended for - Social Security. Also prohibit governments from spying on citizens. Stop all privacy invasions by government and corporations. Lorge supports a Constitutional Amendment to protect privacy rights of American Citizens.
Open the stock market. With Computers came the Day traders. Was the Federal Government ready for this? NO. Did they prepare for it? NO. Have they fixed it yet? NO. The future of our investing will be decided more and more by us, the people, the families. We need the tools, the advice, and the full support of our Government to protect our investments. The investment into the best companies by people who want to plan for their future should be more secure. Investing online should not be a risk like gambling, it should be more secure for the public so that investments are not lost. Margin interest rates and other laws need updating. Wall street and the FTC needs to reform with changing times. You should be able to know your exact portfolio in an instant, including your detailed social security account.
Employer sponsored Early Detection Health Care. Experimental plans are 100% successful. The theory is if employers pay up front, early on, for 100% total and Rolls Royce type coverage in health care for their employees, that any potential illnesses like cancer that later would have not only cost more in Doctor bills and sick leave, will cost minimal as early detection is the quickest and cheapest way to health care. Think about it. If you as an employer had a dedicated employee who 20 years from now suddenly died from a terminal illness that ended up costing you months of lost labor and tens of thousands in costs, that that illness could have been prevented 20 years ago by a simple check up, detection and removal of what ever. This works, it must be promoted and utilized entirely throughout our Nation.
Toilets: Congress in all their wisdom decided to take away the older larger tanked toilet bowls and mandated that a toilet flush be no more than 1.5 gallons. Plumbers say this has doubled their business as 1.5 gallons is so slow and less forceful that it clogs up the plumbing pipes under the house. Also most people if they have to just flush two or three times. This is on of Bill Lorge's top issues because it demonstrates how silly the Federal Government has become with the help of Congress. Bill Lorge will change this law to allow 3, 4 and maybe even 5 gallon toilets to be sold in the USA again. Have you heard about the toilets coming across the Canadian border? This has got to stop. If you thought this was going to be changed back by now, take heed, they just announced the same group who brought us the reduced gallon laws for toilets just came out with new reduced gallon laws for washing machines.
Farmers should be able to rely on a steady regular monthly income just like the rest of us. Milk is the cheapest and best product you can buy in any store. It is time the Federal Government helps the Agricultural community, especially dairy farmers, to start living a life like most americans. 40 hours a week, vacation, pensions, health care, guaranteed steady and increasing income. This can be done by advanced milk pricing to let farmers know well in advance the price of milk, allowing the farmers to collectively use the trillions of gallons of milk they produce and the gazillions of pounds of other foods grown and produced, that they will get just and rewarding compensation, not only for their long hours of had work, but because they feed the world. A monthly salary with cost of Living allowances increasing that salary like all the rest of us. No more up and down roller coaster ride with the market pay checks for our farmers. Bill Lorge if elected will do one thing - He will end the Federal Milk Pricing System, no doubt about that.
Exxon Mine in Crandon: - Against it. Led the effort to pass the moratorium law. We need to do more. Bill Lorge will get a firm commitment from the Federal Government to enforce the EPA concerns against the mine, rather than follow the political Wisconsin State DNR that knows the mine is wrong, but has to agree with the boss, the Governor who supports the mine. Lorge and the Governor have clashed head on for years on this issue. Governor Tommy G. Thompson is dead wrong on the mine, Lorge is right. This is a clear choice for our future. Bill Lorge has proved his commitment to the environment when push came to shove. Lorge was the only Republican again who stood up and fought for what is right. Lorge must be the GOP Nominee for US Senator, for Wisconsin, for the GOP and for our future. We can trust Bill Lorge 100% to be OUR US Senator.
Supports adding Prescription medicine to Medicare coverage. Also supports making Prescription drug coverage part of all Insurance policies.
Increase Consumer's Power. Increase Consumer protection nationwide, especially in the highest complain tcategories. Persons who are due compensation as consumers due to losses caused them, should be able to file simple claims, and receive their compensation if appropriate, thanks to a working rather than faulty consumer protection system. As a Legislator, Lorge was very frustrated in not being able to help out his citizens in one area: - Damaged or lost airline luggage and the other FEDERALLY protected Industries. The consumers of America need a US Senator who will risk his entire Political career to fight for their rights, who will end this robbery and abuse from occurring any further against the consumers of America.
Earth Day: - Lorge's strong commitment to protect the Wolf River is one thing, he knows it will take a lot more to be compared to Senator Gaylord Nelson when it comes to the Environment, but he will try. "I will Stand up for Wild Life, Ocean creatures, endangered species. I will fight to Save the Planet." Lorge has a unique record in the State Legislature doing this. Oddly Lorge has been teased and criticized for his standing up for the protection of Dolphins, remember the Dolphin safe Tuna crusade he launched? He was called "Free Willy" too! But he got it done. Even the gas price issue, Lorge stood tall, he was the only Leader calling for increased use of cleaner burning fuels.
Day Light Savings Time: - There should be only one time, - period. No more changing clocks. We are the only Country in the World where our Government forces it's people to re-set all our clocks twice a year, except the State of Arizona and some other USA places who do not recognize DLST. It is time to end it. This is a classic example of our Federal Government getting way too involved in our personal lives. Lorge has tried to change this as a State Legislator by offering a Resolution to Congress to change this, but Congress never listens to anything that makes sense. Elect Bill Lorge to the US Senate, and you wont have to change your clocks again. DLST
Tornado Watch/Tornado Warning: - Do you know the difference? Neither do I. It should be changed to Tornado Yellow Alert, or Tornado RED Alert. This is a serious enough issue to not take this lightly, especially in Wisconsin where the only real disaster threat other than the floods we get is Tornados. People die from Tornados. My cousin was found a mile from his Barneveld House when the 1985 Tornado destroyed that village, he is alive today Thank God. So, even though it may seem like a joke, and this is an entertaining web page, I am dead serious. Most people dont know the difference between a Watch and a Warning, so fix it. For the Record: A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes; while a Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated on Radar or Doppler.
Mulching Mowers: Lawn mowers made in America should mulch. Eeryone knows this is best, so let's do it.
Air Conditioners that put freon into the atmosphere which erodes at the Ozone Layer must be changed to puron. Puron is an environmentally safe Air Conditioner gas, freon is not. Simple solution, get rid of freon, use puron.
Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage: Absolutely, fully support it. As a former Chair of the Wisconsin Legislature's Insurance Committee, I know this not only can be done but must be done. The Government must provide incentives to create the prescription drug coverage in the private sector as well as the government must do it themselves for Medicare. I predict it will get done next Session, but to make sure, help elect Bill Lorge who is 100% committed to passing this vital piece of legislation.
Age 65 Retirement for Social Security: Absolutely. Again, those expecting age 65 must get to retire at age 65, period. We must stand tall for our Seniors. When commitments are made, we must keep them. Our Seniors are our most precious citizens who have earned their way, we must recognize that by honoring all the contributions they made to our wonderful world.
