Bill Lorge for Governor - Wisconsin needs a "Fighter" News Release for Friday, July 25, 2002 608-698-0300 Bill's Cell phone Lorge pushes real Campaign Finance Reform "Lorge Leads by Example" Milwaukee, WI - Wisconsin Republican Candidate for Governor Bill Lorge will promote his Campaign Finance Reform Proposals in Milwaukee, Racine and Madison this week. Lorge says that his plan is the 'Real Deal'. "I am Leading by example, abiding by my own proposals in this campaign to improve our Electoral process. My Plan will put the people back in control of our Government and will kick the Special Interests out - once and for all," said Lorge. Lorge said all other plans pale in comparison to his proposal. Campaigning in Milwaukee on Friday, Lorge will make stops at several Media locations, as well as speak out publicly at numerous locations in Wisconsin's largest City. Bill Lorge is also following his own Campaign Finance Plan and is leading by his example. "I am out to prove that a good candidate can get elected without selling themselves out to the big money special interest that control our State Government. I am going to win this election and serve as Wisconsin's Reformer Governor for two terms, and because I am running a campaign based on 'People Power', I will be clean and will not be controlled by Special Interests or Political Action Committee money like all of my major opponents are, especially incumbent Governor Scott McCallum who really needs to clean up his act," said Lorge.
Governor Bill Lorge will make his Campaign Finance Plan his first proposal:
Limit all donations to all Candidates to $100.00 "Currently the limit to donate to many State Candidates is $10,000.00. I ask you, who would give $10,000.00 to a Candidate? Not the average voter in this State. I ask all those in Wisconsin who would donate over $100 to vote for McCallum, and those who would never donate more than $100 to a Candidate to vote for me. If this happens, I will win this election with 99% of the vote. I have limited my donations to $100 or less. I am leading by my good example as I won't be sold out by the big money interests who take our tax money away from our kids," said Lorge.
Prohibit State Contractors from donating to State Officials "One of the worst scenarios in Wisconsin is how those who contract with the State Government are the ones who send the biggest checks to incumbents, especially the Governor. I wonder why? This must be made illegal and will go a long way in cleaning up our State Government. Road Builders, Contractors, and others who bid for State jobs and any person tied to State Contracts must not be allowed to win their contracts by helping build up large campaign war chests for Governor. I will make this a top priority in my first year as Governor," said Lorge.
Prohibit Money Filtering through Political Parties "Right now, Politicians filter dirty PAC money through Political Parties for Candidates, much like how drug dealers filter their dirty money. We have to stop this in Wisconsin, a State once known for Clean Government. Political Action Committee (PAC) funds should either be eliminated totally, as I wont accept any PAC or Special Interest donations in my race for Governor, or we must drastically limit PAC donations to Politicians and we must certainly prohibit the donation of PAC checks to Political Parties. This is currently being used to funnel money to candidates who have reached their PAC limits. Political Parties must be limited to raising their funds solely by membership fees, with a $100 total limit," says Lorge.
Prohibit donations to incumbents during Legislative work "This is appalling how in Wisconsin incumbents pine for donations from Lobbyists while they are in Session, voting in their Committees or deciding billions of tax dollars during budget time. This must be made illegal. The only time politicians should be able to ask for donations is during the campaign, not while they are doing Legislative work," says Lorge.
Limit Campaign Spending "The current free for all - spend all you can to win - mentality must be stopped, or average citizens will totally lose control of our electoral process. It is time to put an end to this outrageous purchase of our elected offices. I am in a race where my plan is to spend the least, so I can lead by example. But it seems as if the other Candidates think that who ever spends or raises the most money will win. We have to reverse this, we as concerned citizens have to put an end to this snowballing effect of exorbitant campaign spending," says Lorge.
Improve information of Candidates "We need to find a better way for voters to be better informed of the candidates who they will decide on, rather than finding out who is running on election day. I am having this problem right now myself, as I will either have to buy ads or rely on free media to let the voters know that they will have a clear choice in the September 10th Republican Primary between incumbent Governor Scott McCallum and myself, Bill Lorge, the Maverick former Legislator who wants to clean up State Government and put the people back in charge of their Government," said Lorge.
Allow for easier voting via the Internet "Soon we will be able to vote on our home computers. Much like how we purchase products online with a username and password. Other states are already doing this. Wisconsin needs to move ahead, and under a Bill Lorge Administration, we will be there next year. This will also take the power away from the big money special interests that donate to help their candidates buy the election through expensive ads. When people vote on the Internet, many will research the Candidates via the Internet, checking out Candidate's web pages, etc. Again, here is another example where I am Leading by my good example in this race as my web page: www.hometown.aol.com/Lorge2002 costs less than $20 a month, whereas many of my big money special interest opponents are going to spend thousands of dollars on their web page alone. If they waste money now, they'll waste our tax money later," added Lorge.
Elimination of Partisan Political Caucuses One of Lorge's earlier proposals is already State Law, as Lorge was known throughout the State Capitol as a Reformer who wanted to eliminate the scandal ridden Partisan Political Caucuses. Although the corrupt system that runs the Legislature did not allow Lorge's proposal to be passed while he was there, the current scandals involving many unethical Legislators has caused the Ethics Board to force the Legislative Leaders to eliminate the Partisan Caucuses as Lorge proposed years before it became front page news. Go to: www.caucusscandal.com. "This is one issue completed, I bet they wish they would have listened to me now that many of those who stopped my proposal to eliminate the Caucuses in the 1980's are the same ones now under investigation and could even end up in Prison because they abused the Caucus system that I wanted to free them from. There is so much more to do to Clean Up State Government, and everyone knows that I am committed to this fight because of my past position on these issues. No one should doubt my motivation here, I will win this election and I will pass these sweeping reforms once I am Wisconsin's new Governor. We need a New 'Fighting Bob' LaFollette - That's me. I am the only Candidate for Governor of Wisconsin who not only has the best Reform plan, but I am also the only Candidate following it in this race," concluded Lorge. # # #
