One of the finest songwriters/singers of our time is John Prine. If you haven't heard him then you're missing out on some of the most vivid images of the written word that could ever be made possible. With several albums and even more years to his credit, John continues to tour, record, write and amaze his fans. From the humorous to the somber, he can take you on journeys of the mind and soul that before him, you'd only dreamed of. There has never been another who can turn a phrase like John. He has a true gift of changing the average into the sublime. Having been a fan myself for going on eighteen years, I have been very fortunate to make these journeys with him. The first Prine song I ever heard was "Paradise" also called Muhlenburg County by those of us who lived there. He spun a very sad and nostalgic tale of simpler times and small towns, which both have been eliminated by "the progress of man". In the years that have followed he has continued to weave such tapestries. Singing of such things as whistling and fishing, the missing years of Jesus, the Vietnam war, illegal smiles, and Big ole goofy worlds, he captures your imagination, tickles your funny bone, and taps into your soul. |
