The Pennsylvania Railroad utilized class J-1a 2-10-4 locomotives to pull freight trains between Indianapolis and Louisville before diesel electric locomotives replaced them. Northbound symbol freight LC-11 at Columbus pulled by Engine 6481 is receiving a clearance, a Form “K” for the Brook block limit station, and Form “19” train orders from Operator Muriel Imel on a summer’s day in 1953.

 

Pioneer Railroad of the Northwest was published in August 2005 by the Jefferson County Historical Society, 615 W. First Street, Madison, IN 47250, whose web site is www.jcohs.org.

The spiral-bound published version includes 27 photographs and other illustrations from the Society’s collection, in addition to those on this web site. Copies are for sale for $10 each, plus $5 postage and handling.
