Henry F. Belitz
Kiel, Wisconsin

Henry F. Belitz enlisted on September 28, 1861 and was quickly promoted to Captain of Co. K of the 9th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment on November 9, 1861.  He served in this capacity until his resignation on December 24, 1862.   He received an appointment as Colonel of the 45th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry in 1864.  At the time of his enlistment, Belitz was age 44, married and listed his occupation as a miller.  After the war he returned to his home in Kiel until his death on March 31, 1878 and is buried at the Kiel Municipal cemetery.








Gustav Bloquelle
Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Gustav Bloquelle enlisted on September 6, 1861 at the age of 28 and employed as a gunsmith.  
 He was assigned to Company B of the 9th Wisconsin Volunteer Regiment where he served as
 a Wagoner.  Gustave servived the war and returned to Manitowoc and lived until his death
on April 14, 1907.









Charles Burmeister
Two Rivers, Wisconsin

Charles Burmeister was born March 16, 1845 in Mecklenburg, Germany and in 1851 settled in Two Rivers with his parents.  Charles was a farmer like his father.  He was married on May 27, 1864 to Ernstina Raatz and the following year, at age 20, enlisted for service at Port Washington in Co. D of the Forty-Eighth Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry.  He was first ordered with his regiment to St. Louis, and then after a week, to Fort Scott, Kansas.  By this time, however, the war had been terminated but, although peace was declared, the regiment stayed for a year on the Kansas plains before it was disbanded.  Charles was mustered out of service on February 19, 1866 and promptly returned to his home in Two Rivers, where he resided until his death on June 11, 1918.  He is buried at the Pioneers Rest cemetery at Two Rivers.  Mr. Burmeister had blue eyes, light brown hair, and stood 5' 6" tall.
