My name is Moses Whitman Jr. I am currently attending University of Alaska
Anchorage studying Accounting. I worked as a bookkeeper with the Tribal Office
in Mekoryuk since September of 1998. I attended the University of
Alaska Fairbanks in 1994-95. My goal was to receive a degree in Business
Administration.
My father Moses Whitman Sr. works as a the General Manager of the local store, NIMA Store, Inc.
(NIMA stands for Nunivak Is. Mekoryuk, Alaska). He has been the Manager for the
store since 1976, and still works there today. He has served as the
Treasurer for the City of Mekoryuk and Nima Corporation Board of Directors for
many years.
My mother Sally works at the local clinic as a Community Health Practitioner (a.k.a
Health Aide). She has been working as the C.H.P at the clinic since 1981
and continues to work there today. She enjoys spending time knitting Musk-Ox
wool in her free time. She makes several products such as headbands,
gloves, scarves, smoke rings, etc. She also enjoys various
subsistence activities such as camping, picking berries and boating.
My older brother Steven used to live in Seattle. He moved there in
1998 to continue an internship program, shortly after receiving his business
degree at University of Alaska Fairbanks. He now works with Westward
Seafoods as the Vessels Operations Assistant Manager and lives in Dutch Harbor,
Alaska.
My younger brother Barry is a second year student out of the University of
Alaska Anchorage. He is working on receiving his degree in Professional
Piloting.
He and his best friend Bradley Amos had plans to start a flying business in
Mekoryuk. Barry and Bradley both enjoy fishing and hunting.
My young brother Chance is completing high school at Nuniwarmiut High in
Mekoryuk. He plans to attend college someday to study aviation.
