Steven Forrest: Lunar Phase in the Birthchart
 7:30 - 9:30pm, Building C, Room C205

Perhaps the most obvious lunar phenomenon is the monthly cycle of phases, but it is curiously marginalized in astrological practice. How is a Full Moon in Gemini different from a crescent Moon there? What about waxing versus waning? This lecture introduces an eight-phase interpretation of the lunar phase cycle based on the Pagan calendar of solstices, equinoxes, and quarter days.  Join Steven for an overview of this critical but often overlooked dimension of astrological experience. This talk is about natal lunar phase, which is totally different from the progressed lunation cycle.

Steven Forrest received a B.A. in Religion in 1971 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and shortly thereafter began to establish his astrological practice. In 1984, Bantam Books published his first book, The Inner Sky. Esquire magazine called it "intelligent, well-written and actually fun." That volume was followed in 1986 by The Changing Sky. In 1988, with his wife, Jodie Forrest, he released the third volume of the popular Sky trilogy, Skymates. Steven's fourth book was published by ACS in May 1993. Titled The Night Speaks, it is an extended argument for the intellectual and philosophical plausibility of astrology. His fifth work, The Book of Pluto, was released in May 1995. Regarding that book, HOROSCOPE magazine described Steven as "not only a premier astrologer, but also a wise man.“ His latest book, Measuring the Night: Evolutionary Astrology and the Keys to the Soul, by Steven Forrest and Jeffrey Wolf Green, is based on a series of lectures the authors did together.

Jamie Kahl:  Venus, Juno & Vesta: Three Archtypes of Relationship & Sexuality
7:30 - 9:30pm, Building C, Room C235

Historically, Venus has stood alone as the prime indicator of relationship in a natal chart.  In this lecture, discover how the addition of asteroid goddesses Juno (archetype of committed relationship) and Vesta (archetype of sacred sexuality) can round out a natal interpretation.  Modern society knows these three as Lover, Wife and Mistress, but those categories have limited meaning and the archetypes are not limited to female expression.  Jamie will draw on the rich history and mythology of these deities, finishing with simple formulas for their interpretation. We'll devote the last part of the evening to panels of attendees whose charts feature interesting different or similar placements of these planets.  If you would like to be on a panel, please indicate that when you sign up.  If you know that you have Vesta or Juno in (Ptolemaic) aspect to your Sun, Moon or Rising, or placed in your first house, please do sign up for a panel.

Jamie Kahl began studying astrology in 1980.  She has been practicing astrology in the Bay Area since 1992 and teaching since 1998.  Jamie does readings for individuals, couples and families and teaches astrology to beginning and advanced students.  Her style is lively and interactive because she believes that growth and insight are fun and that the best teachers merely remind us what we already know.  Jamie's articles on astrology and manifestation are online at http://www.pandoraastrology.com/blog and she can be reached at jamie@pandoraastrology.com .

Jack Fertig: The Year Ahead: 2009
1:00 - 3:00pm, Building C, Room C235

With a new president and Pluto fresh into Capricorn, we face a whole new political landscape, and Jupiter in Aquarius offers great opportunities! Starting with the tried and true methods of the Experience Astrology technique taught by Jayj Jacobs, Jack will reach out using additional methods including astrocartography to identify the coming hotspots. Analyzing transits both mundane and specific to charts of nations and rulers, we will see more specifically what's coming up in 2009!

Jack Fertig (born 21 Feb. 1955 12:16 pm cst [18.16 gmt] in Chicago, Illinois, USA) has been studying Astrology since 1969 and practicing professionally in San Francisco since 1977. A long time columnist in the San Francisco Bay Times and then the San Francisco Spectrum, he now writes the internationally syndicated Q Scope and has also written for a number of other journals and magazines. He teaches classes and offers both personal and business consultations, but his principle interest is in outer planet motions and their correlations to social and historical changes. He is a member of the San Francisco Astrological Society, the International Society for Astrological Research, the National Council for Geo-Cosmic Research, a founding member of the Association For Astrological Networking, and on the steering committee of the San Francisco Astrological Society. Darrelyn Gunzburg: Written By the Chart: A Different Look at Your Chart Through Your Handwriting
7:30 - 9:30pm, Building C, Room C205

Handwriting as a means of communication tells us far more just the myriad of marks on a page. They directly reflect the aspects in a natal chart and as such, give you a concrete tool for awareness of your issues, along with the ability to understand them every time you pick up a pen. By changing a feature in your handwriting, you can help a difficult aspect gain a more helpful expression. This is a direct application of complexity theory which states that if you apply a feedback loop into the system, you can help to co-create your future. This lecture is an introduction to an extremely valuable tool for clients as well as the astrologer. Darrelyn Gunzburg has been working in this field of linking handwriting with natal chart issues for the last fourteen years. She has presented this as a Masterclass at the 2007 AA Conference , UK (September 2007) and as a workshop for the New York NCGR (November, 2007), and will be presenting this as a workshop for the San Diego NCGR (March 2009).

Darrelyn Gunzburg is a professional consulting and teaching astrologer who lives in Bristol, UK. Her publications include: (editor) Under Capricorn: An Anthology of Australian Astrology (1990), Life After Grief: An Astrological Guide to Dealing with Loss (The Wessex Astrologer, 2004), co-author of The Visual Astrology Newsletter as well as the Studyshops Delineation: Unfolding the Narrative of the Chart, The Horoscope’s Angles and Charts and Handwriting. Darrelyn holds a BA (Hons) from the Open University, majoring in the art historical exploration of religious art produced in Italy between 1280 and 1500. Her BA (Hons) dissertation was short-listed for the AAH Bulletin 2006 BA Dissertation Prize. She is currently a postgraduate research student in art history and astrology at the University of Bristol, UK. Darrelyn can be reached for consultation work or tutoring at: www.AstroLogos.co.uk .

Darrelyn Gunzburg: Life After Grief: An Astrological Guide to Dealing With Loss
10:30am - 5:30pm, Building C, Room C205

Grief is the emotional response to loss and the process of adjustment to a new situation and it comes in many forms, varying from the death of a loved one to the loss of a job, home, car or pet. Just as we gather people and things to us and make them a part of our life, we must also let them go and deal with endings. Yet we live in a society that does not understand, accept or even teach us about endings. So we pretend that death or other losses do not exist and that the resulting grief will never touch us. But why is this natural part of life so difficult? What can your birth chart tell you about how you let go and thus how you might experience loss and grief? A thought-provoking workshop from the author of Life After Grief: An Astrological Guide to Dealing with Loss (The Wessex Astrologer, 2004).
